Number plate

Framptons are certainly the place to be.

They made this one for me, with the original raised letters, pinned on from behind and the right size and shape too.

Bit pricey, but very well made

So....... What is the size difference between standard and the larger ones?
I guess I've got the wrong ones :?

Thanks Pillow,

That confirms it...... My new one is too small........... But it still looks rather nice

Far be it for me to besmirch a business but I had a nightmare dealing with Framptons recently. I suspect they may have just changed hands or similar.

Numerous phonecalls and e-mails before I even got someone to speak to me.

The head guy said to me that they cannot do reflective plates in the correct P6 sizes now. They did a set of black and silvers for me, which are excellent, but it did take me the best part of three weeks to get them in my hands. Correct reflectives are off the menu there I believe, sadly.

PILLOW!!! :? :?
Its Dave or Pilkie if you dont mind! :)
Or were you typing too fast!

Sorry Dave........ Holding my sides with laughter currently, but put together Android phone, Swype typing and me........ what do you get? Need I say more?

Its quite amazing what it comes up with at times.... I have previously
Emailed someone about classic cat insurance.
Tried discussing dogging in the garden  I meant digging, really I did!!
Repeatedly called my daughter clot instead of Chloe
Allegedly bought my eldest a perfumery 306 diesel...........

There are many more, so Pilkie, Dave, please accept my apologies....... Or perhaps my Apuleius????????

There is a work around.

Find someone who will make a raised digit plate in black and silver which aren't subject to the Post 2001 regulations. Once you have the plate, remove the clips and get some sticky reflective sheeting, apply to the bare plate. Then Paint the silver digits black with plastikote and reassemble. Alternatively strip the plate and get metal already covered in the reflective plastic, cut and trim to shape using the black and silver one as a template.

I did wonder how long places like Framptons would be able to make up plates for older cars as the post 2001 regulations cover all Reflective plates 1973 on. Even the SHOW PLATE loop hole seems to be closed.

If you ask for SHOWPLATE you were able to get what you want and you were not being sold a Registration plate, I am not sure the wording of the laws but they amended it to try and stop showplates being made and used on the road.

Ordered a rear yellow one from Framptons- had quick service and delivery 24 hours after ordering it! Certainly not cheap but perfect, very well packaged and the correct size. Thanks for the info. :D

As far as I have been able to find out, despite what the rules state and makers seem to think."or interpret",it is not illegal to make a plate that conforms in type, style and size with the year of the car it is going on!!
Apparently there are sufficient loopholes!
They also say the maker has to put his details on the plate, but if no details are put on it then theres no proof who made it!
It all came about with scum who ring stolen cars, but that wont stop them, they can easily make their own plates!!
Most of the dealers cannot be bothered with the hassle of getting the correct materials in to make them,as the market is somewhat limited!!
There is a plate maker who attends classic shows in his trailer, who makes pressed and plastic plates on the spot and will take orders for more the complicated "older" style plates.
But I dont have his details to hand!!

Pilkie, I think the firm you're referring to could be the one I bought a set of plates from for Degsy and more recently for my Cooper S...
