Octane booster additive - Engine timing

Hi all

I am running my '75 2200SC very happily on normal 95 octane unleaded without any problems, although I am unhappy with the perfomance a little.

If I wanted to use an 4-star equivalent additive containing an octane booster to the fuel (I believe Castrol do one for £9.99), would I then need to alter the timing etc...?

Would it be simpler to use the high performance unleaded available at most garages?

What are my options?

Best regards

Russ

Hi roverp6

If you can run your car on Unleaded, I would have thought filling up with SuperUnleaded would have been the most convenient option, its nearly 4* equivilent. Shell Optimax is even better, my V8 is definetly a bit perkier with Optimax (BP have brought out an equivilent I understand). For the best out of the engine the timing should be checked, modern fuels burn differently.
One thing I've never done is cost out buying SuperUnleaded aginst adding an additive to "premium" Unleaded. Help anyone ?

Many thanks for the article, very informative.

I have been told by numerous sources that the valve seats on the 2200sc are hard enough to accept unleaded without any additives, is this true?

Best regards
