one light cluster wont work

Hi all,

Im putting my 73 V8 auto back together ready for the MOT, and am stuck with 1 duff light.

Every light works fine apart from the offside front side & indicator - which worked when the car came apart. Its not a bad earth as I've checked the power/earth feed coming from the loom (at the plugs which go through the hole in the inner wing) and there isnt any. All the fuses are OK (in passenger glove box), and the ofside headlight works, so I doubt that would be it.

Other than a broken loom, anyone got any bright ideas?

Thanks

Matt

Does sound like an earth problem, have you tried connecting a flying lead from the light unit to a good earth on the chassis (alternator bracket, or somewhere on the engine), effectively earthing the light. This would tell you if its an earth problem or not. Also, check the output from the loom at the connector that goes thru the wing with a meter, or an old favourite of mine, a known good lamp on the end of a flying lead, connect one side to earth, and the other to the bit you want to test, if the light comes on, the problems further on towards the lamp unit, if it doesn't you need to go further back toward the source. I suppose you've checked the bulbs?
