Parts wanted for series 2

Hi guys,
I'm after a few bits for my 2000 TC.

My engine, running is tired and i should probably start looking for another lump to have on standby.
It has a pretty bad oil leak, i think coming from the camshaft and the engine has a bottom end rattle anyway, so i may as well just swap it.

Also, my gear lever has a lot of play, so im guessing worn linkages?. Do i bite the bullet and change the gear box at the same time?.

I would also like to find a set of doors and an interior including uncut door cards. If someone has a good complete interior up for sale that would be great.

Im in the Bournemouth area, but willing to travel.

Alex.

Hi there,

A bad leak from the camshaft is very likely to be just the head gasket - they're prone to it and easy to change. It's a rubber seal on the oil gallery up to the camshaft, at the rear off-side of the engine.

Also if you've a rattle coming from the bottom end, you may need to change the main bearings - they're dead easy on the 4 pot (even I managed it) and you can do it with the engine in-situ and the car up on ramps - just drop the sump. Here is the forum thread that I had running and if you read all the way through it, has a full blow by blow, step by step guide.

Changing the 4 pot Engine Bearings

How many miles do you have on the clock? The 4 pot eats a set of engine bearings every 50-60 thousand miles ........... :?

Also, what is your oil pressure hot and cold, at idle and at speed??? it is a big giveaway to the state of your bearings. A 4 pot engine should have the same oil pressure hot/cold/idling or at speed, not like many other engines that will drop their pressure when idling.

Cheers,
Bri.

The gearlever is mounted in a big nylon bush which can wear causing play, though I've never had that. There's also a pear-shaped moulding bonded to the bottom of the lever which can fall off making your gearchange feel like stirring a bowl of custard, which I have had. Another lever will be needed if this has happened. Or the bushes that the selector rods run through can wear. Rubber ones on the earlier boxes where the lever is bolted to the tunnel, nylon on the later versions with the attached remote unit. I've also had the bolts holding the stick mounting plate loosen allowing it to move around.
All fairly easy fixes & no reason to change your gearbox.

Thank you for the advice. Yes, i recently changed the rocker as that had been bodged with gasket, but have not attempted the head as of yet. The car has 95,000 on her, and im guessing its the original bearings in there. The car holds pressure of just uner 50 psi, however this just occasionally drop if i stop suddenly or am at idle. This i put down to a low oil level, which i have to keep an eye on as needs topping up once a fortnight. Cheers, this has been very helpfull. :)
