Pathe film of 'P6' Jet-Car... Stunning...!

That's a fantastic clip Ash. What a drool!

Nice one for finding it. Not sure what's happening with the steering wheel on the car - logo taped over or similar.

What an astonishing bit of film! That's the occasion of the cars going over to the New York motor show in April 1962.

The tape on the steering wheel is because, at that date, the wheel almost certainly bears a Talago logo!

Great clip, a rare slice of history.

Sound would have just topped it nicely but nonetheless good to see the car in action.

Well done grifterkid

cheers

Sorry to contradict you Chris, but that isn't tape, the steering wheel is trimmed to match the dash and it is still the same today, (I saw the car only a few weeks ago at Gaydon). A few years ago we had a meeting with one of the turbine team who developed the gas turbine and turbine cars. The question about badging was asked then and the answer was, it was never badged as a talago, it always carried Rover badging, just like JET 1.

That said I have seen the black and white footage from that day, when the T4 was loaded but not colour footage. I am guessing but this colour footage made up of various different shots and angles but not in order, suggests to me that this is probably not the finished article and is more like the unused clips. As I said I am only guessing but best guess is that this is a Rover sponsored film of this event, because filming in colour in those days would have been very expensive and would probably only have been done by the company and definitely not the news people. I wonder where these clips have surfaced from and I wonder what happened to the completed film?

Damn shame there's no sound! I'd love to hear one of those things running. I have a short DVD of the Rover-BRM le mans car from 1963 but it is another British Pathe film so they have drowned everything out with that groovy '60s music, there are just a couple of brief moments when you can hear the turbine winding up and it sounds glorious!
T4 is a really good looking car, replica anyone?
The steering wheel centre appears to be trimmed to match the upholstery, there was quite a decent article on the car in Thoroughbred and Classic cars magazine a couple of years ago and the wheel still looks the same. I don't think it would have had Talago badges as the car was always intended to be a demonstration of Rover's engineering skill so it would have been pointless pretending it was something else.

Great footage. Lots of trench coats and dim flash bulbs :)
Makes it surreal without the sound 8)
