Very nice :)

Has it been restored, or is it original?

Just one thing - is the engine bay wet, or has it been laquered?

I think it had body work around 10 years ago, the wings have been replaced at some point. As to the engine bay, it's the sun reflecting on the black paintwork.

She looks like a nice tidy straight car Deadstar. I reckon the yellow bodywork (Almond?) and beige leather are a good combination. Is she a 74 or 75 model? I too have a floppy gearstick. It only rattles in 3rd and 4th and (so far) has not jumped out of gear. I've got mine secured to the driver's seat frame via a long rubber band - it puts just enough tension on it to stop he annoying rattle. Mine's a 1975 2200TC reg JVY 393N - so she must have been made/registered roughly same time as yours. I got mine just over a year ago and she is also my 1st P6.

Your gearlevers need a new bush on the bottom to stop the rattle and renew its tension!
One can be made out of some small diameter rubber hose,as I did while doing a gearbox change on a mates 1970 2000tc!
Or give Ian a call at rover classics,as I think he does a replacement, and its easy to fit!

Thanks Pilkie - will get the part an put it on list of Autumn/Winter jobs to do. I am trying not to tinker too much during summer months and try to concentrate on driving.

blimey..I very very nearly bought that one! the only thing that stopped me was the seller was very vauge on the phone about how he thought he could prove the very low mileage that the advert claimed was genuine.

I really needed to see some propper bills and recipts to give the sort of money he was asking and as it was (like they always are!) at the wrong end of the country from me it was just too far to go and see.
it looked really tempting though...I hope your happy with it and that its as good as it looked!

JVY - if your gearstick noise is a higher pitched vibration - it may just be the 3 bolts that hold the unit in place (under the tunnel cover on the gearbox extension) are loose.

Remember - try the easy things first!

Well the body on it has clearly been restored at some point so theres nothing to do there. I agree the guy was vague, he knew nothing about Rover's - he drove a Ferrari. The brief hisotiry is that he paid £2,765 for the car last September for his Father at Bonham's Classic Car Auction ( receipt provided) and was really gutted that he lost so much on it. Due to ill health, his Father was forced to down-size his collection and decided to keep his P5 and let the P6 go.

Underneath, it is solid having never been welded. It's dry, doesn't leak, and drove back the 260 miles without missing a beat. It seems to have plenty of power and picked up nicely on the motorway when power was needed. It's MOT'd having failed on a rear brake last time, which was then sorted.

On the inside,(carpets up and seats out) its in great condition with no evidence of any rot at all. I am guessing that this car was stored for a long time and has seen little use over the years. I think it would take very little to make this an absolute mint car, and thats what I intend to do :).

As for it being far away, that nearly put me off. I once drove to Kent to buy an MG Midget. The car looked great, fresh paint job etc. However it was rotten, sills and floor pan all gone. It was so bad, when I pushed on the drivers seat, it pulled up through the floor pan. I didn't buy the car. It's a chance you take travelling to buy a car.

thats always the joy of buying classics you cant see before you travel!
sounds like you dropped very lucky there! I was sooo tempted to buy it too..
but ive been bitten before and am always sceptical of nice pictures these days.

my recently bought series 1 2000sc looked awfull in the pictures I saw..i assumed it was scrap and looked no further!
I saw it in the flesh while looking at another classic and was amazed at how good the base unit was.
just goes to show...

A beauty! Reminds me of our old 2000Auto (which was altered to 2000TC, then altered to 2000SC... long story!)

2 Q's...

Where are the "2200TC" badges that should be on the front wings?

Is that a non-standard fuel pump, or were the glass-bowl fuel pumps changed at some time on the P6's?
