Pod rev-counter - Series 1 V8

Hi,

I have a series 1 V8 & I also have a pod rev counter/clock which I'd like to fit.

I don't know what the rev counter came out of, but it seems different to the TC one. It has no 'red line' & is marked up tp 8000 revs. I've seen one in another V8 which is marked up to 7000 with no red line. There's no part number on it, & the manuals & parts catalogues don't seem that detailed.

Any ideas?

Phil.

Hi Phil

All genuine P6 pod rev counters have a red line / segment. For TC's it starts at 6,000, for V8's it starts at 5,200. Yours is therefore very unlikely to be a genuine part. That's not to say it won't work! I have the same problem and will be using an aftermarket rev counter with mine. The crucial thing is to look at the back of it and to check whether it is suitable for V8's. It is likely to have some form of switch to chose between 4, 6 and 8 cyl engines (the rev counter actually counts pulses from the ignition and divides by the appropriate number to get the no of rpm). If not sure take to a decent accessary shop for them to have a look!

Thanks for that, Chris.

I've now had it apart (sort of) & can't find any trace of an adjuster for number of cylinders. I suppose it is likely to be a 4 cylinder counter, but can check with a multimeter for comparison.

A pity really as it is a 'Smiths' & does look 'right'.

Cheers,

Phil. ???
