power steering for  4 cylinder

You dont need power steering if you drive properly. You are not supposed to turn steering wheels when the car is stationary as extra friction caused as the wheels are not turning introduces massive loads into the steering. So joints will wear sooner.
probably does not apply so much to cars designed from start to have power assistance as part of the steering gear.

At least if you know this you can enjoy the benifits of PAS and not reap and of the negatives :D

That's what my driving instructor said - 30+ years ago !
But I wouldn't want to take my 3500 S with no PAS up to the top of a multi storey car park

Must admit I didn't think it needed an driving instructor to state the bl**ding obvious. SCAUTO's comments are patronising to say the least and somewhat ill timed - shame he didn't come up with such sage like comments BEFORE I fitted the bloody steering. All I wanted to say was - in my experience - having the power steering fitted has transformed the car. I appreciate most people probably would not even consider spending that amount of money on a car of such value but for those who might consider it I thought my experience might be useful.
Perhaps SCAUTO should think before he add's his totally inane comments to a discussion forum.

err barry It might be obvious to you and it clearly is to me and other old duffers , that dont mean its obvious to everyone!
Saying that I have my 2000sc auto in france last year and could have done with PAS! when is really hot and your hands start to sweat that plastic wheel becomes really slippy when trying to manouver through congested city streets, and yes it was also my driving instructor that told me ! A woman called
Violet shanks

and no I dont know!

And finally - I am considering PAS for my 2000sc auto as a long term some time in the futre mod!

ahhhh we are so spoiled these days though aren't we! even the missus's dinky little Fiat has two modes of PAS, 'easy' and 'easy easy' for when she's putting the lippy on while parking... :D

Fitting PAS transformed my 3500. If the ball-joints fail, I'll just replace them, it was worth it.. I think...

Fitting PAS to my 2000 Auto was the best thing I have ever done to it. It is now a pleasure to drive, and I can get it into my garage in 1 rather than about 3 attempts before!

Wasn't it a pleasure to drive before you fitted PAS then? Our V8 has PAS which is nice but I still enjoy driving our 4 pots, both with unassisted steering (when they're on the road that is). I can see it being a pleasure to park with assistance but don't notice that much difference in everyday driving. I'm going to get it fitted to the 2200 though as it's normally 'er indoors's steed. :)

It wasn't a pleasure to drive, got out with my back hurting, now its fine. I must be getting old but I don't remember any of my other P6s giving me problems.

When I drove a non-assisted car everyday, the P6 wasn't a problem. But once I started driving assisted cars everyday, it becomes a shock when you try to manouvre a P6 around in tight spaces.
I agree, once your moving you don't notice, its just the parking etc thats an issue.
