K series is "theoretically" a very good engine superior power to weight ratio than most sports car engines etc...
BUT we all know the reality of ownership. I have a 1.6k in the wifes 216, touch wood it's been ok so far, however it had been rebuilt just before I bought it, and we've only had it 12months.
I'd rather use a T16, they're a bit like Pinto's, big old lumps that go on forever, cheap to fix and with a few foibles, but they very rarely let you down, and make reasonable power, 140bhp in the non-turbo is better than any 4 pot P6 engine, and not far off the V8, and 200bhp from the turbo version is in tuned V8 territory, and of course can be tuned cheaply. And I hate to say it, but these days MPG is just as big a factor as MPH, an 820 with the non-turbo one of these makes over 40mpg on a run, P6 is roughly the same weight but with inferior aerodynamics, but should get somewhere near.
Chevy small block I'd love, especially the modern all alloy jobs, but it's in very serious dream territory, in the same box as my night of passion with Shania Twain !!
