Removing needle from SU carb piston

How do I get the darn thing out? I've removed the small screw on the side of the piston, but it still just won't come out.

Fortunately, this isn't something I need for my own car, I'm just stripping it down and rebuilding it for 'fun'. Grrrr.

Any advice appreciated.

If you've taken the screw right out it can only be crud holding it in. I think I'd hold the needle in the jaws of a vice and carefully lever the piston away from the vice with a screwdiver.
The needle is spring loaded so it shouldn't bend if you are careful.
