Repair or swap of leather seats

Hello

Does anyone know a suitable seat repairer (my leather seats are getting shabby) or if its more cost effective to buy a good second hand set.

Thanks
Eggbert

It is probably more cost effective to replace your worn seats with a good similar set from a car that's being/been broken. The other advantage is that they will look right, i.e. correct period - If you have your existing seats recovered they may look too new and shiny.

Thanks for the reply - I thought as much - I don't often see sets up for sale though. I'll keep looking

Eggbert,

If you are within distance of Jim at Red Hat Rovers at Huntingdon he has odd seats and may be able to come up with something.

Beware if you are fitting series one front seats to a series two, I tried it and it was an expensive mistake as they were too wide to fit, although they looked the same. Could be I was just unlucky but check before you buy. ( I had splashed out on a complete second hand interior, driven miles to collect it, had no where to store it whilst I tried to re sell it and had optimistically thrown away my grubby but servicable drivers seat).

Have you considered cleaning & re-colouring your existing seats. Woolies do a kit and can match the Rover colours if you send a small sample. Its not all that expensive and the results on my seats were good . www.woolies-trim.co.uk. For splits & tears CPC do leather and a vinyl repair kits at very reasonable prices, though you need to mix your own colours so could be fun. www.cpc.co.uk, also Frost www.frost.co.uk do repair kits and supply loads of specialist restoration kit.

Series II seats are profiled to accomodate the inertia reel for seat belts - to fit Series I seats to the later cars would require the harness-style seat belt - a retro-grade step but possiby worth it for a good interior!

Thanks for the responses Gents - the rips in my seats are on the top (where the sun dries / stiffens the seats) - I'll try the repair routes first
Cheers
