Right indicator warning lights flashes for both sides

Last week I noticed that when the indicators were operated, there was the ticking from the flasher unit but no warning lights on the dash. I looked in the back to find the bulbs had been replaced with led ones. The left didn't work at all and the right was really dim. I ordered new standard bulbs from Warings which arrived this week and went about fitting them. Only the right one works no matter which way I indicate. I put the led bulb back in the right hand holder and that now works fine. So it appears that someone may have wired it up wrong in the past?
On the back of the right hand bulb holder is a green/white wire which goes through a hole into the loom. On the same bulb holder, there is also a green/purple wire that goes across to the left hand indicator warning bulb holder. Running from the same connector on the left bulb holder is another green/purple wire that goes to the same hole. From the centre of the left hand bulb holder is a green/red wire that also goes through the same hole. I was going to try and follow them but they disappear into the wrapped up loom. The indicators all work ok, it's just the strange behaviour of the warning lights I'd like to sort out if anyone has any advice. This is just one of many things to sort on the car.

The green/ red and green/white are the standard colour code for left and right indicators, respectively. The green/purple are stop light colour codes, it should have black earth wires. So I don't know what's going on there, someone's been playing, but we know that because they've fitted LEDs.

Cheers. Wouldn't it be nice if folk used proper coloured wires to avoid confusing later owners.
