hi there...please help..I uncovered my 74 p6 2200sc..this morning from her winter sleep...as i removed the cover i saw small pieces of rusted metal lying by the rear wheels..Looked under the wheel arch and saw about a one inch wide gap from the sill to the top of the arch. this is my first classic car..
please tell me if this is repairable....or is this her death nail...

thanks craig....

It depends how far the rot has spread & how much you can afford to spend if it's a big job & you can't work on her yourself. You do need to go exploring around the usual rot-spots though a few flakes of rust do not a basket-case make. Sounds like quite a big gap though.
Roll your sleeves up & keep your chin up........... ;)

Take the outer sills off as well - only held on with screws. Can hide a one heck of a lot!

As for repairing - anything can be repaired - just depends on what you are willing to spend - One option might be another car and keep the original for spares if the repair bill is high.

Ask for recommendations for welders in your area.

The rear arch isn't to hard to rerpair.

You can buy the panels from J R Wadhams or patch the bits up.

I had & have similar holes on all 4 arches on the 3500 Im doing now, but used it to teach myself to weld. Its difficult (for me) but I had the luxury of a welding kit I could borrow long term, but it only cost the owner about £130, which is way less than a garage bill, and a 1m x 2m sheet of steel was only £15, so I can afford to tear it off and start over when it goes wrong. Which it does. Alot.

But I finished one side last week and it felt great, a real acheivement.

Good luck

Matt
