Rover 2000 rev and clock dahboard mount

Tony, how can you not have seen one before? They were standard equipment on all series 1 TCs and optional on series 1 SCs and V8s.

Yep, Standard fayre for the Series 1 TC's, I had exactly the same on my TC that I've just sold, which was also the exact same year of car too. Nice little layout actually, want one for my SC now.

I wonder why they did not have them as optional on the series 2 2000 sc and sc auto or were they an option?

Best Wishes

Tony

They were an option on strip speedo cars right through to the end of production. Understandably, they were rarely specified, SC and Auto purchasers tended not to be interested in what the engine was doing - had they been so, they would have bought a TC or V8!

Now Chris I have to disagree. I bought a 2000sc auto several decades ago because I had always liked the 2000, it was better on petrol and the engine was particularly important as it did more miles per gallon. It was also an excellently designed engine which was very easy to maintain and when I had to rebuild it a few years ago now the job was fairly straight forward. Even those b..... shims! I still drive around town at 30 to the gallon.

The key word was option! They were listed in the dealers option lists, but as stated very rarely specified.

Have I misunderstood you? I thought I knew what you meant by an option right up to the end of that strip speedo but I thought not specified simply meant it was not taken up as an option by the original purchaser but could have been or could be added at a later date. I think we are in agreement but just in case.............

No, as far as I'm aware these were factory fit options - ie the dealer had to specify it at the time of original order. A lot of other options were dealer fit - eg mudflaps - so could easily be fitted at later date. Nowadays we can fit these rev counter pods at home, as we're generally prepared to tackle rather larger jobs than was the case when the cars were new!

Chris

You could also go to the dealer a few months later and have one fitted,so it was also a dealer fit option should you so wish!
My uncle on orders from auntie bought a less than 1yr old 2000sc in 1969 after writing off his '68 V8 "too powerfull according to auntie!" and had what was called an upgrade pack fitted mud flaps, mats, revpod, and overriders.
Made it look like his old V8,even got it in the same colour!
