In an ideal world I would like someone to reply and say they have a pair of immaculate buckskin front seats with teardrop headrests for sale that will fit straight into my 1970 2000TC.

Derr...

In a practical world I have a reasonablish passenger seat, and a poor drivers seat neither of which have headrest fitments.
I am actually considering having the front seats re-trimmed, so does anyone have any buckskin seats of any condition (With headrest fitment) that would be suitable for re-trimming.

Secondly can anyone recommend a trimmer of known quality and reasonable rates? I did e-mail a trimmer advertising Rover P6 specifically on ebay at the moment but the reply was not exactly confidence inspiring so i would rather approach someone of recommended quality.

Many thanks,

Robin

hi,
headrest fitment was optional on series one cars, but the headrest fitment is bolt in and can be fitted to seats without as rover left enough material on the top of the seat to do so as it will be wider with the slot in.

Hi Joseph,

Many thanks for that, that is very interesting! :D

Do you know if they were the same in later seats - I mean if I buy a later set of seats any condition - even boxpleat or cloth type, I can take the headrest fitment out and bolt it into my series I seats??
That would be great as a useable measure until I do get them re-trimmed or covers repaired if that is the case.

This forum is a brilliant source of information! :!:

No. S2 seats with the hard fibreglass back have the headrest socket welded in.

I can recommend a trimmer in Bristol who has done a lot of work for me and works on all sorts of vintage and classics. Makor difficulty will be getting a match for Buckskin in leather. Vinyl is often available. There is a very high quality Jaguar vinyl which is a perfect match.

Many thanks Chris,

I am beginning to think it might be possible to strip the covers off my current seats, have the missing stitching repaired, then rebuild the seats with the covers and give them a good clean and feed with appropriate treatment.

So in order to fit headrests I want two teardrop headrests, preferably but not necessarily in buckskin, and a pair of front seats in literally any colour or condition whatsoever as long as they have the headrest fitment i can strip out.

Anyone :?:

Whereabouts are you? There's a very good trimmer near me who I do some work for and is very helpful. He works on all both modern and classics - he's just finished off an old MG and a Rover 90 front bench which both looked stonking after he'd finished. He's based in Chatham in Kent. If that's any use let me know and I'll give you his details.
