Series 1 or 2 SD1 alloys?

Thanks, Gerald! After 18 years Brown Rover is finally turning into the car I've always wanted it to be. I can't believe what a lift those wheels give it. It suddenly looks years younger.

Warren, your ride looks really good wearing those rims. Much sportier than the steel wheels and hubcaps. Combined with your new transmission it must be a real delight to take out for a spin. Great job.

Brown Rover has reached the end of 2013 a quite different car to what it was at the start, that's for sure! 2014 will be a rest year, with only a few little maintenance jobs planned. Gotta give the wallet a rest and just enjoy the car now. I'm so pleased with the ZF that I'm really looking forward to clocking up a few miles.

Looks great, Warren! Good choice. I also love noticing the difference in handling when changing from steels to alloys, not that I can explain credibly why there is one. But they do make the car feel lighter, tighter and quieter(!). Seems they don't communicate as much din from the road surface.

Curious, isn't it? The front tyres are the existing ones, so the only physical change was the switch to the alloy rims. Yet straight away (and this was with the steel rims still on the rear) I was sure I could feel a difference. Perhaps somebody with some decent knowledge of wheels and suspension might come along and explain. Although such a discussion would put us in the wrong section of the board. I started this off in the Bodywork & Interior section because it was more to do with the appearance of the car than the oily bits.

Very nice indeed, the 205/75 fill the wheel arch nicely. My tires were Hankook 845 Mileage Plus 205/75 and the speed rating was not an issue being quiet a high speed rating, unfortunately with sucky Chinese internet I am unable to confirm the speed rating. :(

Driving about today I really noticed the difference in the car with the alloy wheels and the new rear tyres. Remember my comments about your car after driving it, Graeme? Well, Brown Rover is much more like that now. Gone is the roly-poly ponderousness. Amazing what a difference small changes can make.

I know the feeling Warren
I took mine out yesterday for a run .
The first time with the new timing chain and oil pump kit fitted . I was a little apprehensive as Im no mechanic c/f the wisdom that emanates from these pages . Ive just been firing her up in the garage and studying the perimeters for oil leaks and grinding noises and temperatures . Nuthing append . Not like me .
In short she could have Danced all Night . Almond Rover went up and down and around corners like a new car .
Coupled with the new ARB , chain and pump - " Bloody Norah" what a beautiful xmas prezzie to myself and only a few hundie bucks , albeit a lot of time on my back with oil dripping down my sleeve .
I am in such a good place . My happy place .

I was a very happy chappy yesterday, too Gerald. Having only sorted the last remaining problem with the ZF on Saturday and fitted the wheels on Monday, Tuesday was the first chance to drive the car with the all the pieces of the puzzle in place. I finally had the throttle valve cable adjusted to my taste on Monday night, so the ZF was shifting exactly where I wanted it to, with both up and down shifts responding nicely to the throttle. I could have happily skipped the wedding we were heading to and kept on driving down the road for the rest of the day. The car is very much transformed from what it was, and in fact it amazes me just how good it now feels to drive for a car more than 40 years old. I was ecstatically happy until I pulled into the the gas station and topped up - 16mpg . I do hope that the new fuel pump (in transit as I type) solves that nastiness.

Stay happy, Gerald...and enjoy a day off tomorrow!

Nice one. :)

New shocks will be the order of the day next, from memory Mal endorsed the reverse valved Koni's if you can still find any though I feel probably any of the other recommended choices that get get mentioned here will be million percent better than your oem worn Woodhouse ones, then it will be ARB time.

The shocks are actually pretty tight, and anyway, they won't be replaced any time soon! I've completely done my dough and 2014 will be a fallow year for Brown Rover. I'm in penury right now, and can barely afford to put gas in the damn thing.
