Slime in engine breather system 2000TC

Does anyone have any ideas why I am getting a greenish slime in both the crankcase breather pipe and from the rocker cover breather, (it looks very much like the gunge in the new anti smoking campaign adds, and is I suppose emulsified oil). The engine oil looks clean both on the dipstick and in the engine viewed with the rocker cover off, compression is good with only a 12psi diff between any cylinder. The water level in the radiator is stable with no sign of oil in it nor overheating and the engine runs well. There are signs of fumes blowing out of both the crankcase breather (expected) but also out of the hose that links the air filter to the rocker cover, this is a problem as it is getting into the rear carb intake (I thought this pipe was supposed to suck clean air into the engine).
Is this rapid build up of gunge normal perhaps due to condensation, or should I be looking for a more sinster explanation ?

Happy New Year to all

Sounds like a bad head gasket to me.Oil slime is usually a combination of oil and water, green slime is produced by the anti-freeze mix.I'd look at the crancase oil itself, and check the coolant levels as well. Good Luck.

If the oil and coolant levels aren't changing then it is probably just condensation due to the engine not getting hot enough for long enough. Clean out the gunge then give it a good long hard run. It it re-occurs because of your usage pattern then change the oil more often.

My vote is that it is condensation. I had this problem. Clean out all the breather pipes (right down to the carbs), the breather on top of the valve cover and the flame trap.

Then notice how you get on over specified periods (2 days, a week, a month).

Thanks for that, I hoped it would be condensation but deep down feared the worst, everything is now cleaned and there is no sign of emulsified oil anywhere except in the breather pipes - so fingers crossed.
