small bore (47mm) rear silencer for 3500 auto

Hi everyone, i'm looking for one of the above ^. Even if I could just get a useable section of the pipe that snakes over the suspension I will graft something on :D Cheers, Will.
 
Is this the same as a 4cyl part? I've just replaced the full exhaust on my TC with a new stainless job and the back box that came off is in much better condition than I was expecting. There's a bit of surface corrosion in a couple of places, but it's not rotten. It may even be stainless steel. I don't know what the bore is without measuring, but it connects with the small dia exhaust collars. I can send a pic if that's any use in identifying.

Tom, I really don't know if the back boxes are the same? I think someone on here would probably know. I've only got the parts catalogue for the 3500 so I can't even cross reference. A picture would be really helpful though If you don't mind. Thanks, Will.
 
I'm not really desperate. The car's mot'ed and there's probably still a few miles left in the box, but it seems to be disintegrating in front of my eyes. I was just looking for a replacement now before the thing falls to pieces :LOL:

As far as I am aware the small bore back box is the same 4 pot or V8,but connections depend on the maker.
Some of the middle boxes are also the same,but it depends on the rest from the manifold on the 2000/2200.
Have used both middle and rear boxes on my V8 when rust got to them,now using up my last new bits of large bore before fitting a stainless small bore V8 system,,and I used the stainless rear boxon Connor the 2000sc auto for a while.

Hmmm, that's interesting. In that case Toms spare might fit.
 
Well worth giving it a go,all small bore should be the same diameter,and it could be stainless.
 
According to my parts book, the 2200 rear box (SC & TC) is part number GEX3172. I don't have a V8 parts book, but perhaps you could cross reference. I don't know if this is actually the part I have, but it did fit with what I believe is a standard mid box. The rear box I've removed certainly looks newer than the mid box, and the rear hangar arrangement is slightly different to the book illustration, which is what makes me think it might be after market. It attaches to the car the same way, it's just the mounting point on the hangar is clamped round the tail pipe on my back box, whereas the book shows a mounting tab welded to the tail pipe. Personally, I think the clamp arrangement is superior as it allows the mounting point position to be adjusted.

I've only just got home, so I'll have to photograph the exhaust pipe tomorrow evening as it's too dark now. I'll also have a better look and see if I can establish if it's stainless steel or not.

Thanks Tom. The number in my parts book is GEX3179. But if the main body of the box is pretty similar i may be able to fabricate some kind of mounting bracket if need be.

Thanks for that Tom. Going off looks alone that looks very similar to mine (albeit with a lot less rust! :LOL: ). I think I could probably get that to fit, how much do you want for it?? p.m me if you like? Cheer, Will.
