Well I'm suspicious of anybody with a funny accent, especially a foreign one, and one must never trust the Americans.

BMS stands for Building Management System (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Building_Management_System). It's what I have to do during the day to keep Brown Rover on the road. Any money left over I use to buy scraps of food for the children, otherwise they're out begging on the street, and frankly, that's embarrassing.

a bunch of Indian electricians (imported for the earthquake rebuild) who are carrying out the installation work. Keeping them organised and under control is proving to be very hard work. How did the Raj manage it?

Hi, Ironically the British (government, commonwealth call it what you will) used to take Indians from India and export them to Africa to oversee the African labour force because the Indians were so well organised. Presumably they were organised if some one else was doing the work, in light of what you are saying. Until in the 70s one African state gained independence and there dictato....head of state decide they were making too much money and gave them back to the British.

Any moment we will have politically correct lynch mobs battering on our doors as a result of this conversation...

It has been amusing, if occasionally frustrating, working with these guys. They slope off and vanish if I turn my head away for too long, and after lunch I have to go around and wake them up in their vans. Nothing wrong with the quality of the work, by the way, it's just keeping them focused on the job!
