Steering wheel Allen bolts

I have had to remove the steering wheel a couple of times now.. The series 1s have the centre "2000" logo bar attached from the rear of the wheel by two crosshead bolts. They are seriously difficult to get to, as they are not far enough apart that even when you turn the wheel 90 degrees the headlight high low & inidicator switches cover is still in the way to enable a screwdriver puchase. I note from my parts book that later cars had allen key headed bolts which would be much easier to remove. Anyone got a pair of these, or know what thread I should be looking for? many thanks David

Snap-on used to sell a dumpy crosshead screwdriver with a total length of about 1" which is the perfect tool for those screws. I'm sure that they would still have them.

If you get a 1/4" in drive ratchet (or mousechet perhaps :) ) with a 1/4" in socket, you can use it with a screwdriver bit and get into all sorts of tight spaces.

Much easier than these - simply get a cranked screw driver. They used to be very common and I have got an adequate selection, so haven't looked recently. Basically a straight bar with a 90 degree crank at each end carrying the driver heads. A bit like a double ended alan key with one end cross head and one end flat blade.
