This Sunday: RSR National Rally, Belton House, Grantham.

Update: Folks may remember the RSR President, Tony Holder, a very distinguished Rover-head and founder member of the RSR in 1953, passed away last year.

His widow, Joan, gave Mike Maher a vintage Rover Viking head to be used as a Tony Holder Memorial Trophy, which has now been done. The initial thoughts of the RSR Committee were that it was going to be used for the best Land Rover at the RSR National.

However - Joan has insisted that it goes to the best P6, as Tony loved P6's more than any other Rover.

So there is an additional piece of silverwear to be had on Sunday gents.

This is an awful photo, I know it'll look stunning in the flesh!

Get yer polish out Bri....and I'm not going to be judging it so bribery will not work!

Looks like a prehistoric Dalek !

And it's on the way back to Petworth now with Neil Castle, who is grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

:D

Spectacular weekend in glorious weather - we had to move the event into a shaded area which was the best possible thing to have happened, it was scorching in the sun.

Photos to follow.

Folks
Here's a few quickly loaded photos:

The show was supposed to be held in front of the house, but due to a cricket game that we didn't know about until two days before the rally (!), we had to move back into the shaded area. Turned out to be a fortuitous move as it was extremely hot in the open, possibly even more wiltingly hot than last year's show at Warwick.

The Brazilia V8 in the foreground is a VIP, recently returned to the road after many years hibernation.

The Wedgwood blue 2000 is the one that appeared on Car and Classic last year(?) and raised eyebrows here as it appeared to be a bitsa. I can confirm it most certainly is - the base unit is 1975/1976.

I'm in love with the 2200TC on the left. 27k miles. One owner, who is now 93 years old. The gent who bought the car to the show is responsible for it's upkeep and thus allowed to use it. Superb, original, car.

The Wedgwood Bitsa won best 4-cylinder P6, Neil Castle's 3500S taking best V8 (voted by the attendees) and also the Tony Holder trophy (voted by the RSR Committee, with the exception of me). He was highly delighted.

Back in Petworth and on the mantlepiece before you posted your message Nick - got into Littleocote at 9.15 - didn't catch you after South Mimms - too many middle lane hoggers to let LDD really stretch her legs, but I couldn't have been far behind you.

Great day - good weather, good company and gob smakced to win something - really didn't expect it, but just goes to show everyday cars can win too!
A flavour of the event - one of the photos of LLD in front of the house

superb day, great show, cars and people. sadly my luck failed to materialise as i didn't even win second best sd1, and i had to use my mate's ticket to win a raffle prize.
still, well done to all who won trophies and those who organised the day 8)

Did you get any more pics of that VIP Nick? I don't think i've ever seen a brasilia one before, all the survivors seem to be platinum.

IIRC there were 44 Platignum cars, and 33 Brazilia. This one was is the fifth to last built. What it has, which Robert Pinner's VIP, built in September, didn't have, is the speaker perforations in the back shelf. At least the later VIP's had radio/cassette players as standard, hence the lack of speaker provision in the back.

I did get a couple more photos of the car, but they're not very good frankly. We will no doubt see it again soon as it's recently been restored to the road. The owner has had the car since 1986, it was at Alexandra Palace in 1988, but has spent a good deal of the last 20 years off road.

Cheers
Nick
