Hi all,
I recently missed a bargain pair of top ball joints on Ebay,I thought I would get a set in, just incase!!!
Are they easy to get hold of, are they unique to the p6? or were they used on any other make of motors?,as this would increase the chances of finding a pair.
Do they have a reputation for long life? as I know the p6 was well over engineered.
I also read they can be a right PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!! to change!!
any helpful tips out there are all appreciated :p

Unique to the P6,as far as I know, I've certainly never seen them on, or listed for anything else. I think they're still fairly readily available although mostly non genuine items which don't last as long as OE.
As for fitting, splitting the taper can be a pain, and if you follow the procedure as in the manuals it makes the job twice as hard.
If you think top ones are a pain to do, wait till you have to do a lower one. Luckily enough I've got all the genuine Churchill Tools, so I used to love doing them.

Here's a company in Tamworth that makes them:

Amsteer

They often sell on eBay.

:)
If they last well in use and fit well ( ie they fit nice and tight in the pillar) they seem good value for money to me.

Caveat:
I haven't used any Amsteer joints but after observing eBay, I noticed the name on the box in the eBay photo. They also seem to produced steering sidearms. It looks like they use track rod ball joints with a short rod between.

For me, a lot depends upon what the P6 suppliers are calling new. If they are using OEM or NOS parts, then the price is still reasonable. If they are using Amsteer parts, why not buy direct?
