i am running 185/70/14 wot pressure should i be using as i am putting in 30 as in the wet she still does slide a bit at the front

If it slides either you are driving in a dangerous manner or your tyres are no good or there is a problem with your front suspension, toe in etc.

What brand of tyres are you using Gareth and how much tread depth is there? Is the tread above the tread wear indicators?

Normal pressure settings for 2 occupants at all legal road speeds are 28psi in the front and 30psi in the rear. As I do a considerable amount of country driving, I run 30psi in my front tyres and have no problem at all with adhesion.

Exactly as Ron said. I've always put 30 psi in the front and back, unless I'm doing a long run with a full weight in the back end, in which case I'll pump the back up to 32.

Never had any problems with sliding, so either your tyres are worn (or mismatched), or you have setup issues on your front end.

no problems with grip on pae (apart from gripping gears) - thats on the standard 185/80/14s... is it cos you have 185/70s? smaller tyres....?

Rich

I'm inclined to go for a combination of that toe in error at the front plus perhaps less than wonderful tyre brand?

Chris

i am not to sure what make the tyres are the tracking has been sorted and that correct she has never been good in the wet since i have had her it is a lot better now since the front suspension has been sorted prob will be just 1 of these things that will stay with her lol

You take your p6 out in the rain   lol, the only rain or wet mine ever sees is a wash on a hot suny day.

Graeme

You'll find the brand of the tyre on the sidewall Gareth. I dare say that for safety sake, if your car has never been any good in the rain, then best you don't drive in the rain then.

How old are the tyres,as well as what make and FULL spec?
How many plies have they got?
Some van tyres were fitted to P6's in the past when the size was hard to get!
ALL the info is on the side of the tyres, and if you dont understand what it all means,go to your local tyre center and get them to tell you whats what!
Van tyres can be lethal on any car!!
As others have said, you either still have a suspension problem, and unless a P6 expert has had a look at it,I hope whomever did set it up knows about them! or the tyres are the problem!!
Or you need to slow down and dont corner as fast!

I run 30 psi front and back on the 205's. The fronts are almost brand new nexxen tyres (I can go and find out what they're called) and they are pants in the rain. Slithery front at low speeds on wet roundabouts, but much more stable at higher speeds. They're so poor (for fast driving) I'll be taking them off and putting Toyos on when I get some more cash.

If I'm pootling about or it's dry then they're fine but squealy  And I've only started to notice as the play's gone from the front now.

Letting them down a bit (28psi) improved the grip but upped the wallowyness to an almost absurd level.

Those Nexxen tyres Rob, which incidently I have never heard of, sound as if they would be in the same category as the Kenda Cruiser tyres that I used for a couple of weeks a few years ago. First wet weather drive was on a Saturday, they came off on the following Monday.

I'd opt for 30psi in the fronts Luke. Are you really running 215's or did you mean 205's? I tried 215's back in the late 1980s but they scrubbed on the swivel pillars, so been on 205's ever since.

Hi Ron, just went and had a look, they are 215/65/R14 they came with the car when i brought it.

There doesnt look to be any uneven wear... could i run 35 psi in the back wheels?

Gee, thanks for checking Luke. So 215's hey, that's very interesting and no scrubbing either.

The original 185 tyres ran with 28psi front and 30psi rear for urban use and 30psi and 34psi for front and rear respectively when country driving with a loaded car. I typically run 34psi in my rear tyres and have no problems, so 1 extra psi isn't going to be an issue with your 215's I wouldn't expect.

Ron.
