Un-known button. Help please!

Ok, this is going to sound daft but ive a white twisting button/dial on the left of the steering colomn on my TC. They appear to be on all P6 Rovers and i cant find any indication anywhere of what its for. You can turn it in both directions but appears to do nothing. My owners handbook and the Haynes book dont mention it. I read somewhere that some cars had a test button?, but this is a turning knob?.

It's the adjuster for the delay wipe on your windscreen wipers.

They don't always work though :shock:

It's very random if they work or not - the pipe through to the delay mechanism can get leaks and it's a pig to change it. I've had a few very battered P6's that it works fine on though!

A quick fix if your pipe is OK is change the foam in top of the delay mechanism. This perishes over years and there's no delay.....works wonders, even for someone as non-technical as me.
 
Excellent, I've just found that knob this morning, I thought it might have been a trip reset. Now I know it isn't. Just need to discover what the 2 knobs on the passenger side of the instrument binnacle are for.
 
Hi Rich. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems that the knob is missing. Your pic only show the axle.

I repeat that I may be wrong, since I am never seen any original knob attached to (pics welcome!); it's only my suspicion.

In my case I sorted the issue out by using a door bumper!

I will post some pictures maybe this evening.
