Uneven front wheel wear. - Things to check.

The inner edge of the front tyres are wearing quicker than the rest of the tyres. The steering is also a little heavy. Before I take it to a garage to get the tracking checked what should I check for???

When I put the car back on the road after her rebuild the front wheel bearings had a little play in them. I repacked with new grease and set them up. The play vanished and went throw the MOT ok.

Also when the car is parked it does look a little like the front wheels are splayed out, only a very little.

Just really need a check list as the front suspension is a little odd it could be easy to miss an important part. Also how will the garage adjust the tracking, if its out???

Thanks,
Richard e Collins.

All of the suspension should be checked before setting the FWA. Just because it's had a recent MOT is no guarantee that nothing is worn. Top and bottom ball joints, steering siderods, bottom link struts and track rod ends can all wear as well as the idler, and check the steering box adjustment at the same time. If it's all OK then get the FWA set, but in my experience most garages don't want to do it on a P6, and most of those that do take it on aren't able to do it properly.
Wear on both inner edges does indicate that it's toeing out too much.

It has had a lot of work to the front suspension, from memory, its had all the ball joints done. Maybe as you say, it was not set up right after fixing. The place I took it from the MOT is run by a couple of classic car nuts so they will care more than usual and get it right. (they put a lot of effort in just preparing to MOT her)

If the rain holds of this sat, which it looks like its not going to, I'll jack her up and give it a good going over. (and do my over due 1000 mile oil change at the same time)
