v8 exhaust manifolds

hey is there any one can help me out i got a stainless exhaust system on my v8 from the manifold to the back box. but wot ever i do it keeps blowing round the joint between the manifold and the down pipes. i do know that the fitting on the v8s are not very good at all so just wanted to know if there is a fitting kit or somthing i could put over the 2 pipes and cut the joints off. has any 1 out there has got the same problem or have fix it

Hello Gareth,

The sealing between the downpipes and the factory cast iron manifolds is usually accomplished by using an olive between the two.

The best solution is to take the Rover to an exhaust centre and they will rectify the problem, either by fitting new olives etc or by adopting a new approach where olives are no longer used.

Either way, the leak will be rectified.

I can only say that the exhaust centres in Australia must be a whole lot better than the ones here in the UK.....................

I can honestly say I have never had any issues with exhaust sealing,...seems like an easy fix from what I have experienced.

Is this not the case from what you have seen in the U.K?

In the UK what we would call "Exhaust Centres" are "Fast Fit" chains and are not really clued up for anything out of the ordinary, and as such should be avoided. Obviously there would be exceptions to that, depending on the calibre of staff employed, which tends to be just a bit on the low side for the most part.

There are specialist companies that fabricate and fit custom exhausts (as mentioned in another thread somewhere) which are a far better bet than the high street fast fits.

Providing the studs are in good condition I've never had problems sealing them up either, trouble with the fast fits is they break or strip the studs, then rather than remove and repair the manifold properly they just bodge a repair just good enough to get it out of the door.
