V8 hydraulic lifters

Another ask!!
I am shortly going to be fitting the old V8 carbs and manifold back on and doing the valley gasket at the same time, and it occured to me????????
I am sure I have a dodgy hydraulic lifter,so its the oppertunity to pop another one in,,IF? I had a spare one! :)
SO,,ASKS!!!
Does anyone have a old V8 lump hanging about at the end of the garden,in the shed,or conservatory, kitchen etc, with a few spare lifters they could pop in a jiffy????
Or even a new one or 2 sitting on the shelf unused for eons!!
I know I could buy a new one or a set,but I like to recycle unwanted useful parts when poss!
Ta muchly...
Still after a HIF6 n/s carbie as a spare as well!!

Good lord Dave! You know better than to ask that! Do you really want to write off your camshaft?

Followers and cams always live and die together. If you introduce a new to the position follower it will take the cam lobe out in no time flat. In essence the follower and cam exchange material during the running in period. The degree of exchange is unique to each position. Once achieved they then live happily together into old age. Any subsequent disturbance of this relationship invariably leads to death of the cam. Not even a secondhand follower will do! Quite touching isn't it!

There is one possible solution. You could dismantle a lifter and insert the guts into your existing duff one - thus retaining the cam bearing section in it's original location. A bit of a faff though. I think I'd want to take a cery critical look at your cam lobes whilst the valley is open and be prepared to do a full cam and followers change.

My risk chris, done one or 2 before on other V8 engined cars for freinds with no problems, not about to do a cam change, will live with the occasional start up tap if I have to!
If the cam really is that knackered, and i dont think so,I will bung in the spare good engine!

hi pilkie
have to say i agree with chris, personally i would only either:

1) leave well alone
2) change the camshaft and all 16 tappets, together, for new items.

however, if you won't be persuaded, i can of course sell you either a full set of 16 new tappets at £32 plus postage, or send you as many used ones as you require at £1 each plus post.

i also have a camshaft i took out of my 73k vanden plas efi, it was lifting about ten of the tappets when removed, if you're interested :D

I've got a NADA lump still fitted. The manifold and carbs were sold a while ago, but the heads and lump are still in place. You're more than welcome to whatever you want from that..

Thanks for the offers guys, but last week,,,fri,,
A RESULT!!!
I delivered to a reconditioning place,we had a natter as you do about classics and engines, turns out he loves rover V8 engines and will reseal me the duff one for nowt! :D
