Very difficult gearchange - help!!

Hi There -

I bought my first P6 V8 this afternoon, a 1973 3500S. I'm very pleased with the car (despite the non-working heater!), but it has one problem I'm concerned about....

It's got a VERY balky, notchy gearchange. I've had 4-cylinder cars in the past and they've been a bit like this, but this is REALLY tough to get into any gear. It's the same on all gears, up and down the box. The sychro is OK and the clutch is certainly releasing properly, so it's not that. There's no crunching, it's just very balky.

It feels like a linkage problem - does it ring a bell with anyone? The box seems otherwise good - no noises or jumping out of gear. Is it easy to grease up the linkage?

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

I agree,
Try bleeding the clutch slave cyl. (change the fluid if its not recently been done).
Also change the gearbox oil after a long run.
Use Millers Trans M, or Trans M Sport.
My 'S' gearbox displayed similar symptoms to yours, and when I replaced the oil with the above it was transformed. :)
