VIN Plate needed

Nothing Dodgy - Honest Guv

Have chassis number stamped on car - However I need a VIN plate as well - (one of those silver and black ones that has all the details on it)

For a 1972 2000, Whilst not legally required in the UK - It is where I have moved to. The chassis number isnt enough!!! (I had more than enough trouble gettiong my estate registered here - and I would like to get my 2000 saloon registered as well)

So if anyone knows where I can get my hands on a blank Rover one - I would be eternally grateful

No-one at all has any ideas? Ive noticed on ebay its possible to get hold of Ford ones - Unfortunatly - dont think I would get away using one of those :)

Did they ever have VIN plates on originally? I've never seen one.

There are definately companies that make reproductions so have scout round the internet. Your right in the heartland of Bureaucracy there aren't you, good luck!

If I dont find one the beloved mean green machine will be consigned to a spares bin!. Looks like my next Rover will have to be a NADA - Good excuse for all the extras you get (have to be a 3.5 so can be converted to LPG (about 25p a litre here!)

Had very little luck with the internet search - Found one possibility that doesnt bother replying to messages - Suspect an ancient Rover VIN copy isnt on their manifest!

I have a few ideas, the uk DOT or VOSA as they call themselves now. a body repair shop as they must get them from somewhere which I suspect is a Rover dealer. I know your car is old but so long as you have a V5 they may be able to help.

Also there is the Land Rover connection. I think that you maybe able to get plate that says rover motor company for a land rover, there are plenty people on the net. I am sure my stage 1 v8 had a couple of plates. one said rover at the top and land rover at the bottom with spaces for number etc, you could slice the bottom off. land rover heaven Give Andy a shout at the above link, if he can help he will.

If fact just search ebay and found this which is similar to what I am talking about.
LR vin on ebay.

Thank you arthuy - I had spotted the LR one on ebay (Im doing regular VIN searches!) Unfortunately the Belgians require a bit more info on the VIN than just the chassis number (eg axle weights etc) (similar to the detail on modern ones)

I have left a message with Landrover heaven - so fingers crossed.

I don't have a clear picture but my old land rover had a plate which had about 5 or 6 blank spaces for axle weights etc and only the vin stamped in it's box. There must be atleast half a dozen different plates so hopefully one would suit.

I hope you get something sorted. Again worth trying the police. as they deal with cars that have been ringed they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Also Rimmer bros, they do triumph, sd1, range rover and land rover. they get loads of old stock so again may be able to supply somthing, make sure that you don't speak to a muppet. if you phone them.

Have you tried any of the kit car manufactures? Locust and the likes.

What about a blank alloy plate which you can get engraved with all the details you need at one of those trophy shops. Must it be black and silver? It may be easier to source.

I was once told about a firm in Nottingham/Ripley area called 'Tag Plates' who will reproduce new 'V.I.N' plates if provided with the enquirers full details and car details. I believe their number is 0845 0616736.

Thank you for all your help - Looks like Tagplates are most likely to come up trumps at the moment. However everything on hold for a while as have just found a mint 2200 LHD with all correct paperwork that has a blown engine - If I can get her then Im afraid the Green Goddess I brought all the way from UK will be consigned to spares!

Just came accross this.

Scotts
If you look at the first item, chassis plate 2000. could this be the item you need?

Colin

Tag plates are very good, I have used them before and found them very helpful. The full address is

Hope this is of some help :)

You could also obtain something very suitable from CLASSIC REPRODUCTIONS at www.classicrepro.co.uk - They also supply most of the stickers/decals for P6, other Rovers and many other cars (as well as the badges for the hub caps or Rostyle wheels!). I have used their products for years and have found them very good.
Their catalogue shows a couple of different Rover chassis plates, I'm sure one would be suitable.
Hope this helps.
Regards, John.
