Now take the car out and do some high speeds ... tell me honestly if you think they make a difference. I had mine up to 103 the other day (on a private road naturally), and experienced little if any front end lightening ..... my problem is a rattly cabin ... engine got more to give, but I havnt the bottle!

The original spoilers were on my '74 'S' when I bought it, and I ran it for a few years before getting rid of it. It didn't really make any difference; it was more about the looks.

I did some racing in the 'S' when I was in the Air Force - weekend racing on the runway against other, more modern cars, but as far as I was concerned, it was more about the looks and completing what should have been styling-wise.

I certainly wouldn't take my P6Bs anywhere near the 100 MPH mark. I've got a Jaguar XJRS and a new BMW for that..

I don't actually have any private roads long enough to get to 103mph so probably won't bother trying that.

I had 140mph out of Thunderdog once (I did have access to a private road 25 year ago :) ) and the front end was rather frisky then, so was the back end (and mine).

Not meaning to pee on anyones fire as it were  but when these Police spec valance spoilers are fitted to the V8 valance dont you think it makes the V8 valance look a little like the original 2000/2200 valance :? The V8 valance seems to loose the mean aggresive deep mouth air intake look and if by fitting the cop spec valance it has NO advantage whats the point :? sorry but thats just my personnal view

I've always thought that they finish the front off nicely and have wanted a set for many years.

I could never afford them though so I borrowed a set and had some made up. :)

I assume the BMW is an M Sport .... I have heard from a little birdy that the rest of the fleet would struggle to fire up, net alone do 140

Now that beast above just looks utterly tremendous with just the smallest of additions...! I am most certainly going to take the plunge with those spoilers now, brilliant stuff indeed...

We've been though the costs and are looking for £75.00 for a pair of these, including postage to mainland UK, and all nuts and bolts needed.

Let either Chrisw or me know when you want some. :)

Nope, just a standard BMW Coupe..

And your little birdy is more than a little wrong. The Jag is taxed, as is one P6B, and I've got two P6B's as resto projects.. in fact, I did a 400 mile run in the P6B a few weeks ago, and it ran like a dream. Even I was surprised!

ChrisW and Quattro, I'm going to be away in Laos (Vientianne - a lovely old decaying French colonial town) when the auction for the grab handle ends. I've therefore put a big snipe on it. If I win I'll share its secrets, instructions, packaging etc towards getting some repro's done.

Chris

Those grab handles are going to be tricky to reproduce, looks like threaded bar set in foam with the vinyl covering, I guess they have a bit of squash to them ?

You should be able to reproduce the look in solid resin I guess, but getting the soft feel is going to be hard. Good luck !

Somebodys mentioned on here that the original sharkstooth valance was superseded by the redesigned 2000 item because of road-wander & that the V8 one is based on the sharkstooth.

Spot on. The P6B was developed right at the end of Rover ownership of the company, just before the takeover by Leyland Motors (the lorry co who already owned Triumph) and subsequent merger with BMH (formed of BMC and Jaguar). Prototype V8's were running in early Talago shells - the car owned now by Ian Trapp is just such a car - and preproduction prototypes were on early D plates. By this time the tooling for the front valance was complete, and whilst the new valance for the 4 cyl car managed to creep under the wire of the subsequent investment freeze, rejigging the V8 one to match did not. Thus the end sections of the V8 undertray match those of the sharks tooth 4 cyl one. The 4 cyl undertray was redone as a result of rallying experience in the '65 season care of Roger Clarke and freinds. I would confirm that there is a noticeable difference in front end stability between sharks tooth and later type valances, thanks to experience with our '65 car which wore both at various times thanks to an incident with the back of a sand lorry on the A30...... I've not yet had the chance to do a personal comparison of the V8 with and without spoilers, but hard drivers whose opinion I trust say that there is a small improvement in lift and a much bigger one in susceptibility to cross winds.
