WARNING!!

Nasty! You can become very blase' about warnings with the prevalence of 'elf 'n' safety which is one reason why it's counter-productive to issue warnings about the silliest of things, crying wolf syndrome. Mind you, real blokes never read instructions anyway.

Dichloromethane can have the same effect when incinerated, and I have some anti-spatter spray which contains that!

And to think brake cleaner was intoduced to stop people blowing the dust off their brakes with compressed air
Now brakes are asbestos free , that's probably safer

An interesting warning but I think the man in question sounds a bit foolish. Welding fuel tanks strikes me as a risky business to start with, then using basically any old solvent to clean the area before heating it up to evaporate it off? Wouldn't methylated spirits have been safer?

B**dy hell that sounds nasty! Phosgene was a nerve gas used in the first world war was it not?
I was a welder for nearly twenty years and have used all sorts of stuff for degreasing steel including petrol and paint thinner of various types. I now have no sense of smell whatsoever, chronic sinusitus, chest pains etc and have to work in a food factory.....

Trickyhicky - you could have a claim against former employers there Get some legal advice
Trouble is the first place I worked at is long gone (there is a Tesco store on the site now!)and the owner died a few years ago. Second one went under about 10 years ago and the last place (I was there for 12 years) is still trading but not the sort of blokes you would want to mess with! in a Kray twins kind of way....... :(

So you don't think they'd have Employers Liability insurance ? They should do by law

If you can get a free / cheap consultation with a Solicitor ( are you in a Union ? ) I'd do so asap
