Wavering speedo - gearbox drive? - My speedo is misbehaving

The speedometer on my 1974 2200TC seems only to register the correct speed whenever the clutch is depressed! At all other times the recorded speed (and recording mileage!) is very low. I’m guessing it may be the gearbox drive? Anyone else experienced this problem? Thanks.
 
If it's reading slow it could be the drive gear turning on the mainshaft, try tightening the rear flange retaining nut.
 
Thanks chaps! This has certainly improved things. Car MOTd and back on the road after 2 years SORN. First journey of 80 miles completed last night without incident!!
