Where's my car?

A simple yet effective security device,is to wire in a heavy duty switch to the main batt cable right up under the dash.
I have one,and its a real swine to get at even when you know where it is,I have the radio and clock permanently wired to the power side of it, everything else is totally dead!!
You would have to run a cable from the batt in the boot to the eng bay,and know where to connect it to make it all work!

I'd be extremely careful about detailing your car's security features on what is essentially an open forum!

It's only cos i care :)

Dave

True!

But the last time I had to use it,"At Stoneleigh",it took me about 5 mins to locate it,as, you cannot see it,or even feel it if you shove your hand up there!
You need to know EXACTLY where it is! and what position to put your fingers!

Should be possible to fit a rally-type cut off switch either in place of or near the china insulator where the battery cable goes through the toe-board

True as well, but then if it can be seen, and they are bulky,it is dead easy to overcome by a thief who has the basic tools/key!

I used to have one in the boot of my 2200TC, worked a treat, with a small fused bypass for the alarm and clock.

The problem is that this car is my daily driver so it would be a massive pain in the a**e to have to open the bonnet (S1 remember) and turn off the battery every time I stop somewhere so I think i'll just go for a cheap and discreet alarm with immobiliser. It's harder to bypass than a battery cutoff and if I hide it well enough, hopefully the bastards won't be expecting it.

Great photos. What a lovely car! Hope you get it back.

My relatives are in Tokoroa, Hamilton and Blenheim. I suspect these places are too far away, especially Blenheim in the South Island, but if you think it would help I will e-mail the photos to them. They could eventually be e-mailed on to everyone in the country and the whole of NZ would be looking for them!

By the way do you still have that pink newspaper that my grandad and Aunt used to post every week in the 1950's to my parents in England. I have never been to NZ but am still in touch with my cousins there and from the photos and what they say they send it is a great country. I think my grand-father would wake up in his grave if he realised that are going on there now like your car being stolen but I guess that is the price we all pay for progress.

Good Luck old chap and best wishes from Greater London.

Cheers Tony

Hi Tony, I did get her back. (I did mention it :) ) She is still at the paintshop at the moment. The work has all been done, they are just waiting for the assessor to sign off on the details and final reassembly. I had to 'sell' them a full tool kit because they weren't going to find one anywhere else! So I may come out of this with a bit of cash! Still, I'm really missing my baby. The only good thing to come out of this is that it has spurred me on to getting stuck into my '70 TC. (See 'Barn find TC')
Still, the red one should be back by the end of the week.
Sorry, I don't recall a pink newspaper, may be before my time. It is generally a great country and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but there's always some w@nkers out there spoiling it for everyone else, regardless of where you live.
Cheers, Al...

Yay, finally got my baby back from the paintshop. They've done a nice job on the bootlid so it now puts the rest of the car to shame. :( Oh well, I haven't heard from the insurance about the missing CD player yet so I guess I'll have to chase them on Monday and nothing has been said about paying for the tools so I guess I'll have to chase the panelbeaters about that on Monday too!
The starting problem came back this morning again too and after a bit of fiddling, the solenoid was declared kaput. They are quite a bastard of a thing to get to on the early TCs on account of the radiator expansion tank being attached about 1.5 inches away. I had to take the grille out and remove the lh inner headlight to get to it. Luckily, I had a spare and it seems to have cured the problem. Unfortunately, the plastic grille badge fell off its backing as I was reassembling it so that will have to be re-glued tomorrow. I guess it's better that it fell off in my hand than driving down the road though!
I hate letting other people drive my car. It always comes back with some new problem. :x Having been away from my loving care for almost a month, there are now numerous mysterious rattles and clonks that will have to be dealt with. Still, it's all part of the fun I suppose.
It really is good to have my baby back though, I have missed her terribly. I went for a nice blat all the way along Scenic drive today. Great fun! :D :D :D

It always takes ages to get comfortable after someone else has driven your car and fiddled with the seats and mirrors etc

HIYA!!
Glad to hear you popped in to say hi to mum and mike in Waipu recently.
Hope you get it all sorted with the insurance eventually!!
They always drag things out,as they never want to honour their agreements, and we always seem to have to fight for it.
I hope to be coming over either 2011/12,so look forward to meeting up and drooling over your fleet!
Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, yep, popped in as promised. Just got home tonight actually. I'm quite a regular at the museum when I'm up there as it is the only place around with internet access. (Saw a very nice P5B coupe in white while I was there too)
The red car has been sorted for a while now, running well and looking fine. And the lhd is very nearly ready to join it on the road. As a minor complication, while I was on holiday, I popped in to the museum to check my E-mails and such and decided to have a trawl on Trade-me (as you do), and bought another Rover :!:
I really didn't mean to, I certainly wasn't looking, but its done now. Auction was won last Saturday, paid for online by Tuesday and the car was towed to my work on Wednesday. I haven't even seen it yet so I have no idea what I've got myself into but here is a quick picture from the advert. See if you can guess why I bought it. :D

Didn't get to meet Mike but did have a chat to your Mum and it would be great to see you if you are coming down this way.
Al... Current keeper of SIX P6s!!!

Not just any Air Con, but the factory one with RHD which is rare enough in the UK but must be like rocking horse ... in Aus and NZ.

No kidding! I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I was browsing through the picture of this derelict Rover, not holding out much hope, but it had a badge bar which piqued my interest, then I saw the under bonnet shot and saw the compressor and thought "it'll be one of those ugly Aussie ones" then I saw the interior shot and almost squealed! (But I was in a museum so it wouldn't have been appropriate)
So, brief overview: '72 V8 auto, Davos white with Toledo red leather, teardrop headrests, PAS, wing mirrors, touring kit and obviously AC. It's been sitting for at least a year and apparently has quite a few little rust bubbles everywhere, supposedly runs but not very well and needs a really good clean. I'll go and see it today, take some pictures and report back. I am fairly hopeful as it must have been someones baby at some point. It's certainly not your average old crapper!
