Win Practical Classics P6

I'm not sure I would want to win this . Apart from quick a spray job The restoration was pretty supeficial . The main events seemed to be people leaving grot on resprayed panels , drinking gallons of tea and noshing bacon butties . Not a word on the complexities of the beast

Seems to break down a lot too! Apart from the cam sprocket failing off (my own fault) my car has not given me a day's problem since the rebuild.

They put too much time and effort into restoring Richard Hammond's Opel and not enough into the Rover !
Does the article on how to overhaul a P6 BW 35 gearbox mean the box blew as well as the fuel starvation problem ?

Probably, but don't say too much, they're very touchy about any critical remarks..

An article on how to overhaul the P6 35 box eh? Think I may have to have a look at that, I'm sure it will make a highly entertaining read............

I was going to post on here a few questions about it, as the diagrams look wrong to me. But then what I know about gear boxes you can write on the back of a match box.

I had a quick look at the gearbox article in the shop, and regardless of how little you may or may not know Richard, you're right. In the short time i looked at it I found errors and omissions all over the place, and IF they had someone proof read it they couldn't see the most basic errors that you don't even need a working knowledge of the box in question to see.

If you use their diagrams in an effort to find a fault you'l never do it. (Stupid thing is it's all in the book (WM) correctly.

As for the car, getting to the south of France and back, but breaking down ten times to do it is a disgrace. I'd be well disappointed if I broke down once. It could hardly be called a "Practical Classic".

Needless to say my four quid stayed in my pocket.

10 times breaking down - not too good. I remember when upgraded the 4 sppedgearbox to 5 speed - finished day before we had to drive to austria for a rally!

Did 4000kms without the faintest trace of a problem, modern cars were broken down by the roadside (to the glee of our kids) whilst we sailed on by. And we didn't half motor on the German autobahns!

So will anyone enter to win the rebuilt Mk2 Jag ? After the boyshell sagged and it looks like a lot of patches welded together !

I've just read the road trip article and the thing that struck me was that there were "no other Tobacco Leaf coloured cars" when they got there.................

In fact, in that case there were NO Tobacco Leaf coloured cars.

Unless I'm going colourblind..........

I e mailed my uncomplimentary comments on their" P6 restoration" efforts and the Practical Comics road trip . I said I didn't want to win such a heap of tat , but would accept their Star lettter prize . Deafening Silence so far . They do not appreciate any less than grovelling feed back .
Cheers

Hi im sure someone would be very happy to win the car and please remember that the car did belong to a lad that died, we dont all want perfection sometimes cars with faults and a bit tatty are held with much effection by there owners.

Marcus .
I,m not knocking less than perfect cars .I have owned too many of them !
I do question the competence of the staff of a magazine which calls itself Practical Classics and spends a year suposedly restoring a P6 Rover , only to produce a totally unreliable car . They can't even get the colour right in their article .
It's an insult to the family of the previous owner and the readers of their comic paper .

I used to buy Practical Classics until maybe 14-15 years ago.

Were they always as bad as suggested here, or only in the last few years or so?

I would say it used to be a good serious read until a couple of years ago when the present editorial line-up started
