Wiper delay help wanted.

Hi all.

I have a problem with my wiper delay function on my V8 S2, in the fact that when i turn the switch to "Delay", nothing happens. If i have the wipers running and then turn the switch to delay, then the wipers stop suddenly irrespective of position on the screen.
I have checked the wires on the delay unit are in the correct positions, and have also stripped the delay unit. The contacts were as good as new. The delay piston moves as it should and gives a variable movement/delay when the knob on the steering column is used.
Fast and slow speeds work ok.
Could the fault lay with the wiper switch itself????
Any ideas would be welcomed.
Thanks
Glen.

Do the wipers park properly when switched off normally? It could be a faulty switch, check to see if you have a supply from the switch when it's in the Delay position.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

Yes the wipers do park correctly when turned off (well, usually 98% of the time).
I'll have the switch panel off when i get home and have a poke about.

Thanks again.
Glen.

Update:

Checked out behind the switch today, when switched to delay, there is no voltage present (from the back of the switch) to the delay unit via the green/yellow wire and the purple/green wire.
How does this system work with regard to the flow of electricity through the delay unit?

Thanks
Glen.

The best way would be to study the wiring diagram, but as far as I remember there's a fused supply to the switch, then in the delay position a supply goes from the delay terminal on the switch, through the delay unit, and then to the motor. The fast/slow positions on the switch bypass the delay unit and go direct to the motor. If you have no supply coming out of the switch I would think there's a bad connection in the switch, as you obviously have a supply in to the switch, otherwise the wipers wouldn't work at all.

Thanks for your reply Harvey, much appreciated. I'll source another switch and see what happens.
I'll let you know the outcome when i replace the switch (if i can find one).

Thanks again
Glen.

Success - replaced the wiper switch and the delay works now. Just needs some fettling to get the delay interval decent (replace the foam).

Thanks again
Glen.
