Wiper delay

Thankyou for your help.
I now know what I'm looking for.
My wipers failed to park and when switched to delay they only swept about half the screen and then stopped.
I'll tackle the unit again this coming weekend.

My wiper delay has not worked for years .
A handy piece of technology that I miss not having at hand .
Im now onto it's resurrection .
Replaced the foam piece and everything else looks good in the delay unit - still nothing.
Ive replaced the perished and split rubber tube from the steering binnacle through to the wiper motor -still nothing .
I separated the line from behind the binnacle where the brass joiner is , and put my tongue over the end .
Hey presto I have wiper delay .
Not that I can drive in the light rain with my tongue on the pipe to get delay wipe .

So the problem is in that white toggle on the side of the steering binnacle .

Who has pulled this enigmatic pneumatic switch apart and/or is it serviceable ?

Anyone ?
Before I pull the toggle apart and do irreparable damage.

Hi Gerald,

Way back in the late 1980's, my Rover's pneumatic switch failed. I fitted a new one, so can't really offer assistance when it comes to dismantling it. Are there any Rover parts suppliers left in N.Z where you might be able to source a second hand one from?

Ron.

Thanks Ron
I was barking up the wrong tree.
Wasnt the steering column toggle after all . I pulled the [now new ] rubber hose, apart again at the steering column joiner and sucked on the short end of hose that leads into the white toggle . That toggle shuts air flow off and opens just fine .
The weird thing being , the air line from the governor is showing suction - but not enough to give a long delay
Its that elusive piece of foam at the governor giving the grief again . Its not giving enough resistance > 2secs.
So basically a new air line and a bit of foam is all the delay unit needs . Not bad wear for 40yrs .
I'll have it fixed by lunch time .
thanks
Gerald

Hi found that foam or sponge wasn't really stiff enough to hold the vacuum to give a reasonable delay so I used a piece of pipe lagging instead and it works spot on.

Also be aware than leaks can result in a very short delay - mine dropped to about a second and I found that the hose had split where it joins the controller.

Well , lunch has come and gone and I didnt get to do the wiper delay governor .
I did get the bonnet up though .
A neighbour phoned though >spotted one of my cows grazing the long acre , and wifey wanted me for a man job after errant bovine was relocated . Darkness descended and time to open a pinos gris . Life is full of hooks .
Willy , I have replaced all the rubber hose as it had gone west after 40 yrs .Easy job , just a bit annoying with the huge plates Ive been blessed with . Cheap as chips too !! I like that bit.
When you say pipe lagging Paul , what sort of material are you referring to ? I have polystyrene lagging in my house and that's virtually impervious to air . My old house way back in the 60's had horse hair lagging -LOL !
Should I use dog hair seeing as its a rover ?

Grey pipe lagging made of foam as used for insulating water pipes
Works a treat .It's a closed cell foam so doesn't absorb water

Great!
Thanks for that Dave.
Bonnet is still up and Ive invented more jobs about the farm in the meanwhile - so next bad spell of weather will see the delay unit get some attention .
thanks again
Gerald
