Wiper unit full of rainwater???!!

Whilst putting the finishing touches to my rebuilt heater box, i.e. adjustment of the blending and vent valves, I removed the wiper motor for better access.

However upon disconnecting the cable rack and undoing the bobbin mounts, a large quantity of water poured out of the motor unit.

I can only think the rainwater has entered through the spindles and tracked along the cable drive. There are no signs of any openings in the spindles where this may have happened.

Has anyone on here encountered a similar problem?

I have had the same thing happen. I was back in the 1990s and I had pulled the wiper motor out as it had stopped working. Upon removing the armature cover, water poured forth, and not just a few drops either.. There was a little surface rust on the armature and on the magnets, but nothing more. Gave everything a clean and back together it went, worked fine then. I pulled the motor out again only in the last couple of years except this time there was no water to be found within at all.
