Wipers Stop

Hi all, just a quick one. The wipers on one of the cars appear to be very weak. In intermittant they usually stop after a sweep (moving very slowly), the same in low speed, and only manage a few sweeps on high speed without dying. If i thurn them off and back on a little later they work again for a bit, seem to have little power. Any ideas? Are motor failures common?

Dave

Hi Dave,

Occie's wipers were like this when I got her. I assume you have the cable/rack drive?

I removed and stripped down the motor and cable and just gave everything a good clean and regrease. The motor brushes were in good nick so I left those but IIRC cleaned up the commutator, and I replaced the three motor mounts as they were shot. The wheelboxes seemed free enough, but worth checking them.

They worked fine after that.

Cheers,

Stan,
thanks for that. I assume that I have the same setup, isn't Occie power steering equipped?
Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave,

No, Occie's always been manual steering which on balance I prefer, particularly since fitting the new wheels and tyres. :)

Cheers,

In that case I think I may have a different system?? Think the wipers are different on the PAS cars. On the subject of manual steering, I have 2 PAS and 1 unassisted and much prefer the steering on the PAS cars, especially the red car with the vitesse alloys like Occie's (except not as nice :D ). Then again being born and raised on a farm probably means I'm used to over assisted, vague power steering systems

No, all series 2 V8s should have the cable drive setup with the motor on the opposite side to the steering box. The link drive (with the motor above the steering box) was used on 4 cylinders and series 1 V8s. (Except for very early cars which used a cable drive system 'til about 1966)

Cheers for clearing that one up. For some reason I though they were different  .
