Thats still on the road 8)
I see that when i was about 10 on holiday and my dad took pictures of it im going to hunt for the picture now

When I was in hospital the first time, we seriously considered getting a caravan. Being able to just shoot off at weekends etc, take it easy.... Sounded like a great idea.

Then I thought about it properly, first you need a caravan, then you've got to store it for the 90% of the year you don't use it, then you've got to tow it around, set it, put it down, you've got the extra fuel, site fees etc, and you're inclined to do most of your own cooking (or rather Mrs T would be). Starts to sound expensive and not much like a holiday.

Don't get me wrong, as a child we had fantastic caravan holidays, all over UK and France etc, 4 weeks at a time, 5 of us in a Austin 2200 and a Sprite. BUT - my wife has never been in a touring caravan, and I know she'd hate it after about 10 minutes.

You can get some pretty good last minute hotel / b&b deals these days, and it's a lot easier when you've only got to stick a weekend bag in the boot. So I decided the money would be better spent building a bigger garage and getting some new tools

Thank you for that. Very interesting! But will it turn out like this?

I'm really surprised how anti caravanning most people are (I thought it was just me) :D .

I do like caravanning in a classic van & do have a Cheltenham Oribi stored, but haven't used it for a few years. We used to tour with the Portafold (which have matching 'fins'), they're light & easy to tow. I wouldn't fancy active touring with a full size van though, not least because of the now, very high extra fuel costs. And to cap it all, I've just booked a static van on a site I know very well in Devon. Six berth self-contained, seven nights in September for £140 (another thing to get VAT added in the budget since though). It's not worth the hassle of towing the Cheltenham down. I might sell it soon, they're rare & one just sold on fleabay for £850.

My Maternal Grandfather was a fanatical caravanner and used to travel the length and breadth of the then Rhodesia with his 6 berth behind a Chev C10 with a 2 berth canopy on the back. Every second year they would come down from Bulawayo to visit us in South Africa for a few weeks and do a circuit around the country on the way home.

I reckon my time in the Army cured me of camping and anything not containing a built on toilet.....

It would look good with P6 rear wing 'fins' and tail lights...
I was gonna say! Colour matched otherwise, and with a pair of Rostyles. But I've seen other retro mini-trailers I'd rather go with.
