Sorry, I don't know how to post a link for the item so I have entered the item number.

Quite an interesting model this one. It's on a H plate and was factory registered. Can't be many of these about, what year did Rover release the 3500s ? I wish I had a bit more money, I would love to buy it.

This is my friend Rob Pinner's car. It's the prototype manual V8.

Evidence coming to light this year has led use believe the car was actually built up from a prototype P6B (circa 1966). The base unit was re-used in 1970 to create this. It's complex, but Rover were re-using older prototypes then.

It's a truly historic car.

Cheers Nick

It really looks a cracker, it will be interesting to see how much she goes for and I will look forward to any extra pictures he puts on as he states it has some extra modifications. Are you not interested in purchasing it ?

Robert restored it from derelict in the late 1990's-early noughties. When he got it the car was orange. It came straight from the ex-Rover man who bought it from the company in 1975 (this car was held by the company for a very long time - a lot of the prototypes of that era (including the fuel injection cars) had been disposed of by 1972.

The car has covered nigh on half a million miles in it's life, a lot of that in testing, so it's certainly not fresh out of the box!

This car holds my personal record for speed in a P6 - with me as passenger Rob and I went for a blast on the M6 years ago. I cannot remember the exact speed, but it was over two miles a minute IIRC.

In answer to the last question - yes I would be, not entered into a dialogue with Robert yet.

Cheers
Nick

Well the best of luck Nick, I like rovers that have a bit of history to them and I always keep my eye out for ones with xc in the registration. I think I have spoken to you about them in the past on the forum.

I am saving up at the moment to purchase my next one, I have had a V8 and a 2200 in the past. So I am looking for a 2000sc but have only a few hundred pounds to spend and would like a tax exempt model. The prices seem to be increasing now so I think itI will be hard work finding one, you never know thou one might turn up.

2 miles a minute is well quick for a p6, you must have had total confidence in her to run at that speed

I think it's an odd car, I have seen pictures of it before, and it looks interesting, but at the same time I personally thought it looked as though it could do with a new lease of life. However 500,000 on the clock isn't bad at all. Thinking back to the world record car (dare I mention it as it isn't a rover?) the red volvo p1800s that has done 2.7 million at last count ( in 2007) - thinking about this car made me think someone ought to try it in a 3500 - possibly an S. And there's a good starter allready at half a million.

Blimey Nick, 2 miles per minute? that's at least 120 mph!! Now that really is going for it.

Cheers, Adam.

My first P6 that i owned when i was 21 for 6 months until i blew the engine up ( story there) did break 130 according to the speedo - but from what i now know despite being an auto had a combination of SD1 and 3500s parts... for an engine...

Rich.
