I was invited to a classic track day by friends this week. I decided it was time to see how she’d do on a track. Had a very fun few sessions on the NY Safety Track in pretty wet conditions. The track is a 2.4mile road course with 18 corners and 450 foot elevation change. Unfortunately I have Vredenstien tyres on there and can tell you they’re not great in the wet. But it did make for entertaining handling.
Its the first time I’ve had a chance to really explore the car at the limit with the Koni adjustables and my uprated ARB. Handling is very neutral with a lean to understeer, push on with the throttle there’s a really nice transition into a slide followed by oversteer. The chassis really chats with you, it certainly flattered my hamfisted driving.
Performance wasn’t too bad, and I swear the engine is smoother now after lots of wide open throttle applications than before. Looking forward to going out again in the future, this time in the dry hopefully. Yes, I was the slowest car there, and yes, I was outnumbered by Alpine A10s. But fun all the same.
Had the fun this morning of driving home cross country with the DB4, Sunbeam Tiger and Alfa GTA Veloce. Had to stir the gears a few times but the car kept up fine with cruising at 75-80 on the equivalent of A roads in upstate NY. Felt quite proud of the work I’ve put into it.
