Dont leave your mobile phone charger plugged

House has a little smoke damage, basically OK. its all the classic car parts that were under the benches, etc. for example, a genuine boxed , Jag xk120 workshop manual, now costs 600 quid - if you ever fined one..

That is terrible to see.

You are very lucky that the whole house didn't go up and that no-one was injured.

Was it just a mobile phone on a charger?

Has made me think, as my daughter has a habit of leaving hers on charge in the living room most nights while we are all in bed. Not any more.

Recognized that steering wheel right away!! Didn't realize my service manual was worth that much, but it is very well drawn.
I Know it is impossible to appreciate all the little things that have been collected through the years until they have been lost. I feel your pain.

Absolutely heartbreaking, I hope you have some form of insurance though most of what is lost is beyond easy replacement.

Graeme

That really is a heartbreaking outcome. I fear you'll have a tricky time with insurance assessors too... Keep us posted and we'll try to provide moral support!

Chris

My sympathies are with you.

 Or on the shelf next to the bed while we're asleep.

Has it been confirmed that it was the phone charger?

Most of us have loads of these things plugged in all the time for cordless phones , modems etc
I did read about dodgy import phone chargers but this is worrying

I do ask my wife to turn the digital radio in the kitchen off at the socket as the power unit does give off a fair amount of heat & at the very least is using power which is not needed.

Was genuine original Nokia charger, been in the same socket for about 2 years - not always on though. Must have forgotten to switch it off a day or two previously and never thought because I just got a new phone 2 days before that charges off my PC.
No insurance, so it seems, phoned them this morning, but I kept increasing my mortgage and paying it down, increasing again, etc, 4 times, and the last docs I signed, without reading properly - who does - just signed it and posted it back - was written up as " borrower to find own insurance "
So, all out of my pocket.

I'm really sorry to see these pics of your traumatic fire.
At least the house is mainly OK, that double glazing endured well.
I must admit to enjoying your tri-V8 engine postings, but hadn't made made the connection to the Hensen M30 GT until I identified the sad remains of one in your photos.
Was that your company/product or is it a family connection?

Regards and commiserations

John

Decided that the best way to get over this is to make the garage better than it was before. So, thats what I am doing. Electrics and water sorted, but also decided to tile the floor. It was just concrete before, and rather uneven as it was made up of 3 different pads from previous structures. So, give me a couple of weeks and all 92 square metres will be down. Enjoy !!
