V8 Starter motor recommendations / advice

My 1972 3500S needs its starter motor rebuilt / replaced. Just wondered if anyone has any recommendations as to whom to go to? How involved is it at home with a rebuild kit? A friend with a Rangie reckons some P6 V8 starters are interchangable with those of V8 Land Rovers / Range Rovers -...

Lifting a P6 on a two poster lift - How do I raise my P6 on a lift?

Just wondered if anyone has any experience of lifting a P6 on a two post garage lift? The lift doesn't have ramps just arms. I have access to a two poster but I'm obviously very wary of lifting the car on the outer sills. Is there a way of raising / bracing it so I am still using the original...

    Rear suspension dangers

Can someone describe, ideally with a photo / drawing or two, exactly what I'm looking for when examining the de Dion rear elbows for cracks or potential failure. I know driving slowly along a bumpy road will show up any weaknesses but are there tests I can do or signs that point to trouble on a...

    V8 Engine

It was a one owner car (1972 - mid 90's) but he kept taking it back to the garage for various tiny problems. In truth he was using them for free storage while he was away on business. They got a little annoyed with him and I guess didn't do their best work... Then he died. Since it's LHD they...

    V8 Engine

Hmmm... thinking back I did find that the gearbox was raised on its mount through use of an old 14mm socket... might have a good look at those mounts soon then. Thanks!

    V8 Engine

I am potentially going to feel extremely stupid now but my engine (3500S) has always leaned to the right (as you look in from the front.) I had always assumed the engines went in at a slight angle (like a BMW) :( :( It always ran okay so I didn't bother checking for collasped mounts - should I...

    Rear seat belts

Worth mentioning to anyone thinking of retro-fitting belts to NEVER EVER, remove belts from a car that has suffered an impact. Old seatbelts are usually only good for one crash. Always fit new / unused belts never just ones that are £5 from a scrapyard wreck. Mike

Advice on 'S' exhaust manifold pipes

Hello I have a September 1972 3500S (LHD Swiss export) and although the engine is not the one it left the factory with (according to the V5) it's still a 10.5:1 high compression block. I need some new exhaust manifolds (ie the bit connecting the engine block to the down pipes) as the threads...

    3500S sat for 2years - any advice b4 s

My 1972 3500S was last driven about two years ago, she has been sat outside since although was an MOT'd runner when I left her. I recently moved her (on the back of a transporter) and she rolls freely enough so no brakes seized on and the gears select easily enough. I'm wondering if anyone has...
