Advice on 'S' exhaust manifold pipes

Hello
I have a September 1972 3500S (LHD Swiss export) and although the engine is not the one it left the factory with (according to the V5) it's still a 10.5:1 high compression block.
I need some new exhaust manifolds (ie the bit connecting the engine block to the down pipes) as the threads have been well and truly mangled by a 'helpful' ex-girlfriend.
I've been told there are various different types of V8 manifold designed for high and low compression heads and the designed varied depending on year of manufacture and whether the P6 was a manual or auto.
Can anyone shed any light on what I should be looking for if I find some at an autojumble and have no way of comparing with what I already have? Are there parts numbers cast somewhere or inlet / bore sizes than can easily be measured?
Thanks
Mike

hi mike,
as far as i am aware there is no difference to what year/ compression ratio the engine is etc. there is a differnce with the bore, where you connect the downpipe to the manifold, where the three studs are the bore of an auto is 42mm and a 3500's is 62mm. that should help you find what you are after which will be the bigger rarer ones.
