    fuel vaporisation

Hope it cures it for you, it's really good when folks remember to let everybody know when they find a solution. We have a small but enduring local meet for the Rover P6 Owners Club where this sort of issue gets thrashed about till we find a solution between us, having said that, we rarely speak...

    fuel vaporisation

If the plugs are correct type I use an old fashined tool called a Gunsons Flash test (an overpriced one on ebay at the moment) when the engine is running OK, this will tell you what the HT (spark) voltage is when the engine's behaving. Next time you have an issue do another test. You'll then...

    fuel vaporisation

Are you sure the plugs are the correct type? Rover changed the spec of the v8 plugs early on to avoid similar issues, if your car has later heads fitted these were of yet another spec. I'm sure somebody can advise the correct type.

    Brake fluid level switch.

Thanks for the input folks, I'm glad the use of synthetic cork has been mentioned. I don't think it existed when I first repaired my unit, very much pre internet days, but I did try one once a while ago and it didn't float! Now I know the modern stuff is viable I might give it a try. I'm sure...

    Brake fluid level switch.

Brake fluid level switch, my solution! This should make sense to everybody who has done the wine bottle cork stuff with their level switch. I don’t know if there was anything special about the original cork but they were OK for the envisaged car’s lifetime, say 7 or 8 years ish? If I put a...

LED HEADLIGHTS, my limted experience so far

Bit of a summary: For any interested parties I’m 90% there with the lights now. I started out with halogen conversions on all four front lights, i.e. I had already replaced the original sealed beam units for bulb fitted Lucas replacements during the restoration 30 odd years ago. I’d always...

LED HEADLIGHTS, my limted experience so far

Well I've slept on the latest problem and today, against my better judgement, I attacked the pristine but otherwise useless light with my Dremel copy grinder and narrowed each lug by about a milimeter. Much to my delight the one I've attacked now fits perfectly. My advice is now buy them knowing...

    Brake Light Switch

Hi Gerald, Lucas part number: 34619 (in1980)! Used on (of the era) Aston Martin Hillman imp (some) plus derivatives Hillman hunter (some) plus derivatives Lotus Europa Late Rover P5 Loads of lightish commercials and motorbikes. About £15 on ebay for new Lucas part (I think these are Lucas type...

LED HEADLIGHTS, my limted experience so far

GREEN BOXED LUCAS 5 3/4 HEADLAMPS (LUB 223) My dealings with these: Next step was to fit these. The internet seems awash with these "Lucas" units. I'm having to get a refund on the two I've just tried to fit because, surprisingly, they dont fit! The 3 mounting lugs are fractionally out and...

LED HEADLIGHTS, my limted experience so far

I’m well pleased with this topic that I’ve started and thanks to everybody who is contributing, I’m learning stuff and at some point I hope to have a setup on my car that I can recommend to others and which will save folks the donkey work of finding things out the hard (expensive) way! For...

LED HEADLIGHTS, my limted experience so far

Thanks for that roverp480, that confirms what I understood from my web searching. My main issue now is that I'm fairly sure my headlamp lenses are designed for left hand drive after comparing with others on the net! Well over 30 years I've had that car and never had a comment on an MoT or from...

LED HEADLIGHTS, my limted experience so far

Hi Quattro I find the rules a bit confusing but as I have found out all of our P6 cars predate the requirement for headlight type approval and as such, so long as they pass the mot requirements for testing, the light source is irrelevant. There was a fairly recent MOT requirement for any...

LED HEADLIGHTS, my limted experience so far

The second attempt LEDs arrived the day after ordering from a UK supplier. There's no manufacturer name on the boxes but they were neatly packed in a firm foam housing and best of all they fitted securely into the lamp housing. Based on the fact that they work and look to be capable of...

LED HEADLIGHTS, my limted experience so far

S'cuse any typo's my spillchucker seems to be awol since my last computer crash! Just a tale of caution that may be unique to my situation but might just be of interest to a few others. My P6 has had the standard sealed beam headlamps replaced with Lucas units of the era, designed for the old...

    Decal Placement Reference Library

Not wanting to divert the thread but here's a couple that might be of interest. The Doctor Calling belongs to my car's first owner, found inside the driver's door during restoration and the steering lock notice together with the keys were found behing the passenger side back seat taped to the...

    Boot lid handle

Thank you all for taking the time to respond to my latest issue. My handle seems to match all the images folks have been kind enough to post and I've come up with my own explanation of the correct way the handle should be: 1. Ends of the handle should be flat against the boot lid, if not they...

    Boot lid handle

Hi Gerald GRTV8 A pic of your car's set up would definitely help. I think mine is also as it should be but a pic of yours, being as it is in as built condition, should settle the issue! Chris, just magnified your pic again and that looks exactly as mine (as you said) but that looks like some...

    Boot lid handle

HI Gerald GRTV8, Mate's car is a series 1 that has been given a series 2 bonnet and several coats of the shiniest glossiest black paint that you have ever seen! I'll badger him for some pics as it really is a credit to him (and the not so small fortune it cost him to restore it). He has spent 4...

    Boot lid handle

Well thank you Chris for the information, question answered within minutes! It makes sense now, of course the door handles need to have curved bases. Phil, I thought that mine matched the brochure illustration and you agree so my mate probably has a door handle on his boot which would explain...

    Boot lid handle

At the club meet last week the two P6s in attendance happened to be parked side by side with the boots facing our outdoor table. All was well until yours truly noticed that our boot lid handles were different, mine was higher than the other car's although both use the original holes. This piqued...

    NLS underbonnet info label

Just got my new label back from Diginate, many thanks for the information Peter. The chap who dealt with me was very helpful and I'm well pleased with both the label and the price. I'm now looking and wondering when the recommended type of plugs changed, I suspect sometime after my car was...

    NLS underbonnet info label

Hi Peter Just wondered if you kept a copy of the artwork that you used for the Diginate website? I'm sort of at the starting point of dealing with them and if I'm interpreting the site correctly all they need is a photograph of what I want in the appropriate format to be sent to them. If that's...

    Hi!

Hi Gerald Your car has a fascinating history to it, the P6 was a really special car and tended, even when on the go, to have a healthy following but even so I think you Top Trumped most other stories I've heard! Thanks for your vote for Lanolin as a rustproofer, I reckon I might see how it...

    NLS underbonnet info label

Hi Peter, Went to the Diginate website and they do look promising, I reckon I'll need a few hours to get round the process but I'll see if I can send them a pic of the original and see if they can help. Steve

    Hi!

What a cracking looking vehicle! House looks very idyllic too, just the place to have a P6 parked outside. The first P6 I ever lusted after was in that colour and was for sale in the garage on my paper round. I was 14 at the time and nobody amongst my pals had parents rich enough to own a P6...
