    Engine swap. Best way?

You might be right about the backing plate Harvey. It's been a few years since I did mine but I have a feeling the auto plate has an extra cutout in the starter hole to allow access to the torque converter bolts.

    New member from New Zealand

Hi Stewart, I recognise that car. I supplied a few bits for it a couple of owners back before he sold it to buy a P5B. I believe it was the subject of a NZ Herald article on classics and their owners a couple of years ago. It is definitely Almond with a Sandalwood vinyl interior. There may be a...

    LHD 2000 auto

I think they suit the car. Oddly enough the only other P6 I have seen in NZ with Cosmics is a very nice series 1 V8 in Arden green. This is the second set of Cosmics I have owned, my first set (which were pretty rough) were stolen from the shed at work a year ago. I was amazed to find another...

    LHD 2000 auto

It's starting to look like an annual thing with this car. After that car show last Feb I drove it for about a week or so then parked it again in favour of the TC and didn't touch it again 'til December. But I decided it would be nice to have the use of it again and the TC is becoming due for...

    Girling rear outer pad holes

Yup, I've had this issue too. I bought a couple of sets of Remsa pads in which the holes had been filled by pad material. I used an old pad that was worn down to the metal as a template and drilled out the holes again. They work fine, just a sloppy manufacturing process.

    Hello from Auckland, New Zealand

Don't know if they were officially sold here but I've seen a couple. They built the V8s here and possibly the 2600 too. There are quite a few Vitesses around and even a few twin plenums and I saw a Diesel one once and a couple of V8S models and VdP efi. Don't think I've ever seen a 2300 I the...

    Fuel gauge not moving

It's probably not a float issue. I removed the sender and it was rusted in place so I dismantled and cleaned it as best I could, lubricated it and tested and it seemed to work. Unfortunately it only lasted a couple of weeks before failing but given it's condition I'm not entirely surprised. I...

Formica strips / wiring into doors

Just make sure you get round ones, way too difficult trying to cut an oval hole in the door! I think those came from a mid-90s Toyota Camry. I salvaged another set from a Toyota Chaser which I will be using on the ToyRover project.

    My mate Casper.

Oh Mate, that's tragic news. Very sorry for your loss.

Formica strips / wiring into doors

I found some door wiring conduits from an older Toyota at a scrappy and used them in one project. It does require a largish hole but the result is very neat. You can just see one here:

    Storage headaches

Yes, progress is good when the missus goes away. The Chaser was a bland but well made car and the motor saw service in the Supra and Soarer, often with a turbo or two hanging off it and occasionally in 3litre guise. However this week I am currently down in Wellington with a rental car that is...

    Storage headaches

Re: Storage headaches/engine upgrade So they did come through in the end. Made me an offer (without admitting liability) which I accepted just to get it over with. Not as much as I'd like but better than nothing, So, what to do with a basically sound 3500 with a knackered engine? I've been...

    Remving the Handbrake Gaitor/Tunnel Finisher

You have to remove the console before you can take the gaiter off. Is your car auto or manual? Remove the ashtrays. Remove the two 7/16 nuts at the back and the one at the front. There should be two Phillips screws at the front also going from the tunnel console into the front under the speaker...

    3500EI

None at all I'm afraid. I have spent most of the last year building myself a garage which is now essentially done (another 'building my garage' post coming soon) so the beasty is nicely covered and protected but there have been many complications, emptying my storage unit (and the damaged car...

Are all Rear Bottom Links the same?

V8s and 2200s are the same. 2000s are different in the front bush area I think 'cos they don't have the crossmember.

    Storage headaches

Had a chat with the storage company yesterday. The upshot of the conversation was that, while maintaining that there was nothing wrong with the container, and that the contract stated no responsibility on their part, they were prepared to make a 'contribution' towards putting the car right. We...

    Great donor car

You can't part that out! That's a Vanden plas efi! One of the rarest SD1s with just over 1000 built. Makes the Vitesse look common. If I was SD1 inclined I would be falling over myself for that but the last time I suggested getting one, my missus said she wouldn't be setting foot in it.

    Storage headaches

Yes, it does seem to be a condensation issue. The storage people have been checking it for leaks but I don't think they'll find anything. It was quite a new container when I moved in. My concern is that they are advertising these things as suitable for storing cars (among other things) and I...

    Storage headaches

So with an overabundance of cars and parts on my property a while ago I decided to hire a storage unit to tidy things up a bit. The place I ended up with had a bunch of new shipping containers in a secure site for a reasonable price so I hired a 30ft container at the end of 2011 and parked my...

    Speedometer extension... AAAARG!

I just did one last weekend. Had a hell of a time initially with my head under the dash trying to see what was happening and getting nowhere. In the end I got myself nice and comfy in the drivers seat, shut my eyes and went by feel. Took about 15 minutes in the end.

    SUs Or Holley

SUs are pretty simple really but not widely understood on your side of the pond. Holley 390 is basic but not a very good carb. Better bet would be the Edelbrock performer manifold and Edelbrock 500cfm carb (sold as a Weber in the UK). Would take a bit of fiddling to swap manifolds and adapt to...

    A steal!

Shouldn't be worth more than $1500. No wof or reg, not run for 4 years, failed last wof on suspension and more.

No power to the engine. Could it be the carbs?

Hi Raf, welcome aboard. I was watching that one on TM, looked very nice. There are a bunch of things it could be but you'd want to start with a good tune up. Have you any mechanical capabilities yourself? A lot can be achieved without spending any money. Start by cleaning and gapping the spark...

    Another Aussie P6

They are Cheviot alloys. An Australian made wheel popular in the '70s and '80s in Oz and NZ. They aren't Rover wheels.
