    How many left? UPDATE

Likewise I am sure there are far more than the twelve listed for NZ. I have seen as many as five appearing at a car show in the provincial city of Hastings. Since I purchased my 3500s in 2004 I have regularly looked at the P6s listed on Trade Me and there have been a lot of them for sale or to...

    Oil and Filter Change Frequency

I was today removing the power steering reservoir from a parts P6b owned by Rover Bill to install on my own vehicle. I noted that the body number prefix was 453 which tells me it was CKD and RHD and was thus assembled here in NZ. It must have been one of the last ones as the body suffix was D...

    Leaking reserve tap

Yes, you certainly have to be flexible. I replaced mine using my left hand only, the other hand held the torch. you have to very carefully remove the cable that goes to the reserve lever inside the car. Be carefull not to drop anything or it will disappear without trace.Remove the little screw...

    Engine Oil

Can any of our NZ contributors advise if any of the oils listed by Chrisyork on 4 January 2011 are available in NZ? I hoped to be able to get some Penrite oil in Hastings but when I went over there last week the firm who listed Penrite oils has disappeared. Thanks

    Sealant for rear window...

No sealing is necessary for the rear external quarter panels (the ones usually covered in vinyl with a small Rover badge). There is a metal skin behind them which prevents water entering the car. Any water getting behind them drains directly down and out behind the rear wings/ mudguards.

    oil filters for the V8

The Ryko Z30 fits the P6v8. It also fitted my Holden HQ which Ron from NSW may have heard of. ( I also have a low km HC 202 motor sitting in my garage ) No serious offers refused. Transport to Australia your care.

    15/40 castrol edge

I have just read an interesting article that may be of interest to all Rover owners . Go to the website www. economist.com and find the article under Science and Technology dated 5 November 2010 by Babbage. It relates to the damage caused to the engines in older cars caused by modern oils. It...

    Supermarine Spitfire...a scale model

As usuall , Ron from NSW is right. After making this post, I checked and found a plastic Japanese kitset which my wife purchased for me many years ago, clearly shows there were two construction options. One shows the fixed pitch option or the three blade constant speed option. Even more...

    Supermarine Spitfire...a scale model

A truly remarkable model. But did a Mk1 Spitfire have a three blade constant speed propeller? I always thought it had a fixed pitch two blade wooden propeller. That aside, it is a credit to the constructor. Congratulations.

    Shall I buy this Rover?

I was not drawn to the vehicle by the Rover name but rather it seemed an attractive little vehicle. I shall now confine my attention to my 1973 3500s. I greatly appreciate the helpfull ( and sometimes forthright) advice I have received from enthusiasts not only here in NZ but the UK and possibly...

    Shall I buy this Rover?

A year or two ago, my neighbours purchased a second car, a 2000 Rover 216. I always liked the look of the vehicle and it seemed nicely finished. They usually kept it in their drive, along with their other vehicles and then I noticed it was permanently out on the street. They told me that the...

    DOOR - GLASS SEALS REMANUFACTURED

The door Glass Window seals (window scraper) available from Scotts in Australia are as good as you will get for the price and they fit well. I inherited a set when I purchased my 3500s and fitted them. Although they do not have the metal strip inside them like the Rover originals, they are...

Where can I find Pendelican White paint?

Thank you Grim V8 for your intelligent and informative answer. I shall now retire with my tail between my legs. (Metaphorically speaking !)

Where can I find Pendelican White paint?

What is Pendelican white paint? Is it the same colour as pelicans which are sort of white?

    British & European Car Show

Will be held at Windsor Park, Hastings NZ on Sunday 14 March. The theme this year is Riley and there are some about that are about 60 years old. I hope to post some photos and have obtained some software that enables you to reduce the size so they meet the 512kb limit on this forum. However I do...

    ANTI FREEZE

I have for many years used Castrol antifreeze and corrosion additive in my cars including my 3500s. I have always changed it every two years in accordance with the instructions. I recently purchased a late model Japanese car with an aluminium radiator. They tried to sell me a premixed coolant...

What relevance, if any, do Ron's puzzles have to P6 Rover ownership and maintenance?

The next Brain Teaser,....the Balloon and the P6

Your teaser is not as complicated as it sounds. As the ascent of the balloon is uniform, as is the forward movement of the Rover is expressed in the same units, we end up with a right angled triangle. As many years have elapsed since I last solved such problems, all I can say is we are dealing...

    Converting to PAS

Some progress on PAS. On Sunday I went and collected some parts removed from a donor car by Rover Bill. When I got there he had already removed them and I got a heavy box with items packed in plastic bags. At home, I found the first item was a high pressure hose. It was in remarkably good...

    P6 in 'The Gaffer'...

Perhaps I am wrong, but "The Gaffer" looks remarkably like Greengrass, the likeable rogue in that delightfull TV programme, Heartbeat.

Now here is one for Pilkie

Waipu on the East Coast of the North Island of NZ, has just celebrated its 139 years of settlement by the Scots. (This is a very long time by NZ standards.) On new years day it was observed in traditional style. Yes, there was Scottish country dancing, throwing the caber and seemingly endless...

    Merry Christmas

And a Merry Christmas from NZ. Like Ron from NSW, our festive season is marked by hot weather. This is a far cry from our ancestors from the UK who had the traditional snow , holly, etc. However I shall be getting the P6 out and give it a chance to show its performance on the open road, while...

    Converting to PAS

I have been gathering the parts to convert my 3500s to PAS. So far I have a PAS steering box and I hope to have a pump by the end of the week. However a question has been raised over the steering column shaft which goes from the steering wheel through the firewall and engages on the spline at...
