£5k for a 4-cylinder???

This is a very nice car, but has horrible new style number plates, and the (very nice) roof is non-standard....

Either the seller has his mates bidding on it or we're seeing new frontiers in P6 values...

I hope it's the latter...

This one - item number: 320429450003 failed to get a bid at all....and looks to me to be an excellent car (without seeing it in the flesh, as it were - although someone has obviously painted the sill covers, which would cast aspersions on the originality factory)...

Gotta agree with you there Nick

I thought the 2nd car you mentioned was a lovely looking car and was surprised it got no bids. First one looks v good too but £5 is just silly money

That's "the doctor" whose cars often raise eyebrows on other forums. Have a look at his feedback to see some other examples. He has a talent for finding low mileage classics which then get the treatment (steam cleaned under the bonnet, etc.) before being listed for double what he paid for them. Best of luck to him I say, but his prices don't seem to affect the real world much.

Fascinating, all the same.

I have a beautiful 3500 auto with all the toys about to hit eBay. But it won't make anywhere near The Doctor's price, of that I am pretty sure.

:D

Every time this chap puts a motor on eBay it is a real stunner... Even so I think that the price for this P6 is probably an exception to the rule here as, although nice, I think somebody is delving in feet first i.e not looking around to see what else is out there...!!! My estimate for a good solid, and really tidy, 4-cylinder P6 has to be around the £2.5-3k mark... £5k upward for a 4-block is unchartered territory...!

I don't agree.

There is always big money for a exceptional car whether is be 4cyl or 8cyl. Although a 4cyl will need to be super tidy to achieve decent money. There is fans of the original and could be argued the best p6 version, believe it or not there are people who don't like the v8.

Good news for those with nice 2000 and 2200. But does illustrated the widening gap between ok cars and exceptional cars

i suppose if you have the money and you want something then paying over the odds is by the by.
it does look a stunning car< so if you really want it you'll pay for it.

£5k for a 72 car, wow! Maybe if it was a very early series 1 car yes. Saying that she does look very nice, I really love that roof with the tobacco paint work. Not seen that before and I think works really well.

It does look good, but technically it's custom - it's much lighter than Huntsman.

Funnily enough the demand for early cars isn't what it is for 1970's V8's - had a good chat with one of the gents from Hurst Park Autos (the very posh old car dealer) at the NEC last year and he was saying he can get five figures for a mint 3500S in the right colour (Cameron Green or Monza), a couple of grand less for a comparable 3500 auto.

We were talking about my white 1964 2000 by means of comparason - 21k miles, two owners, one of the best early cars in the world - he said that in the unlikely event of something that rare coming up he'd be looking at pricing it around £7k - still wouldn't get near 3500 money.

Early cars still carry the stigma of the apparent rareness of the Dunlop brakes - quite a nonsense in the 21st century as the bits are freely available, barring the front discs (Ironically the same situation as P6B's are now in)

"The Doctor" does write a good advert .I'd love to know where all his stock comes from .
I suppose his prices are OK if you get a car needing no work and ready to go
Some of these cars have been standing for years and will need extensive recommisioning

I did think that car looks nice and can't see why so many people don't like that colour

Bless her. Sadly not come out of the garage since an epic run to the NTPR and back in June.

I had a chance of getting a 64 car that was an original Isle of Wight car for £500. Kicking my self for missing that one, just did not have the spare cash then and no where to hide it away too. Although it was a runner with mot it did need needed restoring. But was all there and correct. Really annoyed at missing out on that.... :(

That was a Wedgie car wasn't it...apparently it did need some fairly heavy work - I'd heard it was a serious accident repair or similar?

Saying that, if it's all correct (e.g. the interior/clock/wood etc.) it would certainly have certainly been worth the £500.

Gents
It's back on - this time with a different seller, and an even higher price!

Item number: 250513469621

Surely another trader hasn't bought it and then marketed it for even more money???

Lots of very strange things seem to happen with "The Doctor" It's rumoured in some circles that he has lots of friends shill bidding on his items to bump up the prices, hence they often end up re-listed. I couldn't possibly comment on whether this is the case or not.........Although isn't it strange that this "new" seller has lifted the previous description in its entirety from the first ad, including all the waffle always found in a "Doctor"'s listing.

I will keep an eye on his future listings...if they are all bidding each other's stuff up in the hope of ensnaring some innocent (and foolish) bidder to make a huge bid it's pretty sad. But this is human nature....greed greed greed.... :(

I've got a very beautiful 3500 auto which will start on Thursday at £800 and NO-ONE will be bidding it up. It'll go for what it finishes on!

How can this car have 1 previous owner if it's been sold once on eBay already?

Can we not report this to trading standards?

Dave
