i have a 10: 5 engine, with composite gaskets. what must be down from the heads to get the old compression?

are you sure harvey? I have replaced the original tin metal gaskets! the difference should be around 0.5 mm.

That is .020 inches or .01969 to be exact

20 thou is what V8 tuner told me. Alternatively enjoy a more sensible CR with modern fuel.

Better still, find some late (Thor) heads. Then you get bigger valves and won't need to skim at all to keep your CR.
