1969 Three Thousand Five

Looks like a corker. Interesting engine and false boot floor too. I needed a couple of seconds to realise that was a P6 boot I was looking at.

It looks a beauty. I met the guy who is selling it around 10 years ago when I bought some P6 parts from his friend. The standard of the cars that these guys owned was exceptional so I guess that this will be the same. He allowed me to drive a green series 1 V8, Im pretty sure this was the one. It was very smart but not fuel injected etc at the time - even then it was the best P6 I have ever driven. I still remember the drive, quiet, absolutely effortless, smooth and refined. Just as Rover intended with the series 1 V8.

I really like this. Little details like having no wing mirrors. The electric sun roof is also not exactly common. Sounds like a great investment. Being located in Scotland will not exactly draw a huge crowd - I bet it will go below what it should be, because of it.

It is the south of Scotland though and Hawick is only just over the border.

This car is only about 40 mins from where i live and I've never even seen it before

Fraz where are you and have you seen this

Dave

:) Looks like a very nice car and it will be interesting to see if it meets the reserve and sells.

Did a DVLA check and it comes up as a UK Green V8. Going by the reg date, it was made just around the time I was born..... Wish I had a spare few thousand!......... I suppose that I could always just tell the kids that Christmas is cancelled this year :D Hmmmm..........

If I had the space and money I would love a series 1 V8, but you have a point about cancelling Xmas Steve, hmmm....

I've spoke to the guy selling it , As I was interested,he wants £8750 for it

Yikes. Looking at the pictures, the body looks fantastic. Interior is probably at the 90% mark. Engine looks great. I'd guess it's worth around £5500, but even that would be top dollar.

I've never seen it about anywhere either, Dave. Even at shows in the Borders, I've no recollection of having seen it. It's a fantastic looking car though!

Eight grand.
Wow! That is fantastic. Looked and read like it was worth every penny.

I've got issues of Practical Classics going back about 10 years. I can distinctly remember seeing Triumph 2.5PI's in a dealer somewhere in middle Englad listed for £7,995. Whether they sold at that price is a separate argument, but my word it's over-time the Viking got the recognition it deserves!

Michael

Price sounds about right if the car was that good.

A 1971 white 3500 auto we looked after, superb condition with about 35k on the clock, went for that last year. First to see bought again apparently.

It's good to hear that P6s are becoming more widely appreciated, though I fear as prices begin to rise like this, there is a danger of an increasing number of them being treated like ornaments, rather than being used as intended. I'd love a series 1 3500, but given the way that prices are going, it won't happen for a very long time.
Could it be that P6 prices are beginning to fall into line with those of P5s/P5Bs? Certainly P5B prices have really come down in the last 18 months or so, as it's not that long since there were lots of lovely ones for sale for over £10k, but now you can own a lovely one for around £8000. I imagine that 2000s may eventually reach 3 litre prices, but I imagine that, as ever, they will come second to V8s in terms of values, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it means that parts remain affordable for 2000s.

Yes I was thinking exactly the same mate, £4500 to £5k

I'm quite surprised either of you thought it would go for that little actually. :?
It looks to be an exceptional machine & I think the S1's are really gaining favour. They have certainly improved in my eyes over the years.
